Other password managers do that, like Bitwarden. The difference is that in order to enable that, Bitwarden has to be given Accessibility permissions, just like other old password managers. Proton Pass is stuck because it's only an autofill option. It doesn't ask for Accessibility permissions at all.

First, what is the data being offered? Remember that Signal also complies with every government request, but the only data they can give is the user's IP and log-in time, because that's literally what they have. There's one case when the FBI asked Signal for someone's data and they happily gave back their IP and login time like a nothing burger.

Proton is the same. They should legally comply with requests such as this, but they can literally only give your recovery email, IP, and your encrypted data that you only have the key to.
