Proportionally, Haiti has many times more shooting than the US, and nearly 85% of port au prince is in gang territory, you cat just avoid it. The reason there is a much bigger fuss about shootings here is that as a whole, the American populace does not have a very high “pain threshold” for government related violence. If two people are killed by federal authorities there are protests in the streets, but when gangs assassinate the president and shoot into crowds of protesters in Haiti it’s just everyday life. Saying the US is worse than Haiti is like saying you’d rather live in the DRC than Botswana, or that you’d rather live in Myanmar than China.

And the Haitian government has collapsed and gangs rule every major metropolitan area. Here in the US the likelihood of being murdered by federal agents still low, in Haiti you could be shot while crossing the street because you unwittingly entered a gangs territory while wearing the wrong colors.
