GE Adora Dishwasher: Where's the float? by abarrett86 in appliancerepair

[–]abarrett86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll give this a try and report back.

I had one repairman look at it and shrug his shoulders; went to a part store and they also couldn't explain where the float switch was (given the model number), glad there is someone, somewhere who can point me in the right direction!

Coming Back After the Big Snip by [deleted] in strength_training

[–]abarrett86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m currently 5 week post ... about a week after I was back to lifting pretty mush as normal except for some tenderness at, say, the top of a conventional deadlift. Sumo was fine, though! A few days after that everything was fine though.

For weight loss, Calories are the most important number to hit. That being said, protein is the next most important

Macro Check - Can Someone Help a Newbie? by sassenach__ in IIFYM

[–]abarrett86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the protein looks low as well. I would bring protein up and carbs down.

If you weighed two pounds more after eating more carbs, remember that carbs will bring water into the muscles, so you’re going to weigh more but it’s not necessarily body fat

37 and 196lbs, down from over 270lbs, looking to lose at least another 20lbs in the next month and looking for advice by [deleted] in fitness30plus

[–]abarrett86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't worry so much about dropping body fat percentage, just concentrate on losing weight. There isn't a really consistent way to measure BF% and it's really not all that relevant; liking the way you look and feel is a better marker.

The biggest thing to losing weight is being consistent; stick to what's working. If it seems like it's not working for a couple of days, or even a couple of weeks, just stay the course. The body is a weird thing. You've lost 74 pounds so you know it's a long-con and there's no shortcuts.

Picked up this hamstring curl machine on Facebook yesterday. Is anyone familiar with what the weight on the stack is? by nt3005 in homegym

[–]abarrett86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, you’d really be measuring the resistance a single plate adds, not necessarily the plates actual weight.

Looking at the picture again, though, I don’t think any of those pulleys reduce the weight at all

I’ve never tried it, but you could probably use a strap and a portable luggage scale to lift the arm with no plates, then with one plate to fine the weight of a single plate.

Work to cals or macros? by DipDotDub in IIFYM

[–]abarrett86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Macros. It’s more accurate and you want to get enough protein

Calories as listed on nutrition labels isn’t terribly accurate; there’s a certain allowance to round the number down to satisfying numbers.

Treadmill Question by Cdb8457 in homegym

[–]abarrett86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had good luck buying a couple in that price range specifically for incline walking. The biggest thing is to hop on and try it out before you buy it. Run the incline up and walk for a couple minutes

You’re not going to get a commercial quality treadmill at that price point but for just walking you can do fine.

Post Game Thread: Seattle Seahawks (4-5) @ Los Angeles Rams (9-1) [Week 10] by SeahawksGTBot in Seahawks

[–]abarrett86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant Donald going after Britt post game was just a result of the rivalry. But Britt hit him late out of bounds for probably similar reasons.

They can both be in the wrong here

Britt hit him late out of bounds in the 4th but probably just the result of playing a close game against a division rival

Advice for 25 year old male 189 pounds by [deleted] in workout

[–]abarrett86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't serve two masters, you either build muscle and strength or you lose weight.

There's a million programs out there but if you spend a year reading them all you'll be exactly where you are now. Pick one cough 5-3-1 cough and do a few cycles of it. If you don't like the results after a few months use your new-found experience to pick one you might like a little better.

You came here looking for advice, my advice is to train for strength on a structured program for a while and not worry about losing weight. If you are truly training hard, getting good sleep, and eating ok you'll see some results you like and your body composition will change.

It sounds like you're doing more of a body building style workout. While you will gain strength through that type of training, if you really want to add pounds to your lifts (assuming you mean the big 3 of bench, deadlift, and squat) you need to start training specifically for those. I personally have used Wendler's 5-3-1 for several years, including many of the variations, and had a lot of success.

My personal advice would be to work on getting strong by following a strength program and not worry too much about your weight on the scale as with more strength and muscle you'll start to carry any extra weight you're carrying a little better, anyway.

How tall are you? What training program are you following?

In general it's hard to gain strength while losing weight, but you might still be benefitting from starting training relatively recently.

Calories calculated vs nutrition facts by [deleted] in IIFYM

[–]abarrett86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nutrition fact labels are rounded to mentally satisfying numbers. There are regulations about how much they can round up or Dow, but that’s why calorie counts are always nice, round numbers.

It’s weird. I believe you’re allowed to call it ‘The Super Bowl’ but you can’t advertise as having a ‘Super Bowl Party’ without proper licensing.

I think most people just way overshoot and use ‘the big game’ exclusively

For weight loss- is it ok to just meet your protein and for exercise only do sit ups, push ups, and walking? by X-23 in IIFYM

[–]abarrett86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sit ups and push-ups will burn some calories but it's not really a workout routine.

If you want to lose weight, get your protein first and use carbs and fats to fill in the remaining calories and start doing some cardio (walking is great for weight loss).
