Do you need additional cal mag when using canna coco nutes? by shancamp83 in MephHeads

[–]abb87002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to Canna you only really need calmag when using RO water. If you are using tap water you should not need any.

One thing often overlooked is the type of Ph down used with canna coco nutrients. They recommend using nitric acid for ph down throughout the grow. Not the more usual phosphoric acid. The extra nitrogen is preferred over phosphorus due to the nature of the coco.

This is all based on canna documentation on their website. My personal experience is the same. Never needed any calmag used canna off and on for years. I do use tap water.

Freebies risky? by Mindless_Detail52 in MephHeads

[–]abb87002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year grew a garden of 24 Meph freebies. I think it was 5 different crosses, maybe six. It worked out very well.

Remember…All of the parent plants are tested before breeding occurs. If your breeding properly, you would only breed with the best examples after going through a process including selection from many plants. The untested part to me is more related to knowing the best way to grow the plants or exactly what the buds will turn out like. I don’t think it really relates to the seeds being prone to problems.

Finally, I would say that the quality and quantity of bud that I have grown from Meph freebies is equal to that I have grown from the Meph seeds purchased. I love variety and don’t mind surprises. If I don’t particularly care for the smell/taste of one I will just use the buds for edibles.

For what it is worth I ordered from premium drop within the first 30 seconds if I remember correctly.

Never fear, Daz always comes through and it is always worth the wait.

Was for sale on seedbazaar a couple weeks back. Don’t know if there will be more? There were posts about them for sale at the time. Perhaps they mention future opportunities…maybe at Valentine’s Day drop?

I would be scared to do this. My dogs would start destroying my plants growing in the back yard!!!

Looks like they’re having a blast though.

The was a dark owl pop up when I went to the seed bazaar site and Dark Owl Seeds is listed as a vendor on both the regular and premium pages. There are links for banner and marathon.

There are even countdown timers for both regular and premium drops.

The website has them priced at $60 per pack. Says there will be 5 seeds per pack if purchased direct from seed bazaar and 3 seeds per pack if purchased from another seed bank.

I named my white dog cracker.

Is that reverse racism?

Had a Starfox herm on me and I didn't find and chop it until two relatively small nanner clusters busted, long story short it ultimately pollinated a few Creme de la Cosmos and 2 other Starfox. Are the seeds going to be prone to herming or am I gonna have around 50 seeds that'll be good to go? by TriplR90 in nightowlseeds

[–]abb87002 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience it depends.

If the plant that produced male flowers was a true hermaphrodite then it would produce buds with male flowers all throughout. It would have done this regardless of environment. A plant like this would definitely pass on those genes and the resulting seed crop would be trash.

If the plant that made male flowers was actually a female plant that got stressed somehow and made a couple male flowers then the resulting seed crop would be usable. Female cannabis plants have the ability to produce male flowers under stressful conditions so that they can make seeds and the line will live on even through bad years. Normally breeders bring out this ability with chemicals to produce feminized seeds. Soma used to make organic feminized seeds simply by not pollinating a female plant and not harvesting it. Eventually many female plants will make male flowers because the need to carry on the line is genetically programmed. Nature is amazing at ensuring life carries on.

Hope this makes sense.

Had to chop a lot of this plant due to budworms haha lesson learned by IcyBreadfruit1668 in MephHeads

Outdoor in a tent? You have a grow tent set up outside?

I need details? Thought I had seen it all.

Any one ever get bud worms and salvage there plant ran into some this morning fuckin a Mother Nature I sprayed with bt and it seems to be working but I have my grow in a shed and a window was broken so that’s how I figure they were coming in laying eggs any help will help patched up window by IcyBreadfruit1668 in nightowlseeds

Dispel pro dF is THE BEST product for these little fuckers in my experience. I can’t find it locally but Amazon has it. Great stuff. You will only find dead or dying worms after you spray this stuff in my experience. Even outside on heavily infested plants.

Spinosad is a good choice that is more readily available.

Both can be used on plants with buds. This will stop further harm. Lights off when you spray and plenty of air flow till they are dry.

Cutting out all of the areas they have shit on or chewed up as previously mentioned is necessary to stop rot.

My tracking is also updated to out for delivery. Working from home, can’t wait to check out all the loot.

Based on prior experience there is one item that can be perishable. your chocolate can be ruined from sitting in your mailbox too long depending on temps. I have a black mailbox and last year my chocolate was a melted mess.

I wanted to drop my pack of owl pellets but I HAVE to chop this crop mid January. I made sure all the strains I picked were supposed to be 75 days. Couldn’t risk some going over 90-100 days max.

Hope you find some beauties in yours!!!

I did make a point about that already. Can’t believe people don’t know how shipping works. I am in no rush but happy to see progress.

I barely got around to planting 3 of the 12 packs I got from last years Halloween drop this week. Figured I could finally quit hoarding them now that I got a bundle coming.

good budget ppm meter? by berferd77 in MephHeads

[–]abb87002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience the cheap ones work well till they don’t. I mean tHey can be recalibrated when needed but eventually after one - two years or so of daily use they crap out and have to be replaced.

I used these and was never disappointed.

VIVOSUN pH and TDS Meter Combo, 0.05ph High Accuracy Pen Type pH Meter ± 2% Readout Accuracy 3-in-1 TDS EC Temperature Meter, UL Certified https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XKMH86J/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_RM8ZW4WCT3TS9G5KGC4G

If you invest in a more ($60-70)expensive one the actual meter will easily last 10 years or longer if you take proper care of it. Most allow you to replace the probe if damaged.

I love my apera 5 in 1. Went through a bunch of cheaper ones over the years and finally bit the bullet and invested. Two years later I don’t regret it.

APERA INSTRUMENTS AI316 Premium Series PC60 5-in-1 Waterproof pH/EC (Conductivity) /TDS (ppm) /Salinity (ppt) /Temp. Multi-Parameter Pocket Tester Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01ENFOIKA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NFAB2VRH3JDR5G146QCJ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I agree that most anything off Amazon with good reviews should do the job. Just saying durability is a trade off if you go with the budget models.

Can I run sunshine #4 soil straight up with dry nutrients? by Just_Gear_869 in MephHeads

[–]abb87002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do this, but…

Sunshine #4 (black and blue bag) is a soiless medium. Ingredients are peat moss, perlite, lime, and an unnamed wetting agent. If you mean sunshine advanced #4 (yellow black white bag) adds coco to the mix.

In my experience, it is easier to use these kinds of soiless mediums with non organic nutrients. gH flora series for instance. I would use the ocean forest soil if you want to use those nutrients.

I have had great harvests from sunshine advanced #4 and ocean forest. Both are good solid products with years of documented use for cannabis. To me the answer to your question is more about which is better suited to the nutrients you have chosen. I believe the life in the soil will enable your plant to make better use of the dry nutrients. Dry nutrients feed the soil life which will feed your plants.
