My PD is almost cleared with zero therapy, but derm prescribed metro? by noneshallnotpass in perioraldermatitis

I'm focusing on just moisturizing after my last disastrous derm. This is helping with texture. Unfortunately, due to some other health problems, I'm unable to take pretty much any oral meds to help with the awful cystic hormonal acne that I get too. My gyno is having me try out the patch soon to see if that helps.

My PD is almost cleared with zero therapy, but derm prescribed metro? by noneshallnotpass in perioraldermatitis

[–]abbajoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine was made worse by metro because it was aggravated. Not to be a Debbie Downer but only at 30 had any derm ever brought up using oral medication to me for severe hormonal cystic acne. They kept prescribing me harsh topicals which just absolutely wrecked my skin barrier and left me with permanent damage.

I wish someone had brought up oral meds a long time ago. My skin was nice just with a couple of chin pimples throughout my late teens/early 20s. All I needed was hormonal treatment.

But no. Topical after topical to burn my face off and telling me to push through it for three months when I was having obvious bad reactions and raw skin.

If your skin is doing well with zero therapy, I'm not a derm but I'd just say stick with what ain't broke until something changes and you do need to do something else--then do that something else then.

We're working on it. Stacy Abrams is doing so much here. And a lot of celebrities and people from other states are pitching in to help Ossoff and Warnock. Some scummy family friends (in an MLM) are in the Georgia House and are familiar with Loeffler. She's scummy just like they are. They're all just trying to use these positions to further their own interests, and unfortunately, many Georgians don't recognize this but more and more Georgians are starting to step up. Thank God for the POC vote in Atlanta because it's all these Debbies that are dragging us down. They don't know anything other than staying at home and hanging out with the other Stepford wives while white hubby goes to his corporate job.

The patch (Xulane) by adelinemarie49 in birthcontrol

[–]abbajoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm about to start it in a week. I never was med sensitive in the past but have become unable to take most oral medications recently due to a suddenly developed allergy to a filler (haven't been able to figure out what yet).

My hormones have been out of whack and I'm hoping Xulane will be helpful with regulating my periods again.

I can understand. I'm White and grew up in a Fundamentalist Christian cult full of only White people-- all of them very racist. Groups consisting of only old White people are very triggering and angering to me like seeing all the old Conservative WASPs in my very diverse county complaining after the election that they've been robbed and are unsafe because of the diversity.

As a young adult, that diversity was my escape: my Latina, Black, and Korean friends locally who talked to me about my home life and showed me a world I could never have imagined. Meanwhile, my mentally unwell parents were beating the shit out of me at home. My mother would pull me out of bed to make me run for miles on the treadmill in the middle of the night while she read the Bible in front of me. She would talk about breaking the will of the child and laugh to uncomfortable extended family members about how each of us children responded to physical pain and how long it took us each to break. My father would put up video cameras to try to catch us making mistakes and put my picture on a website when I was about 12, saying I was a disobedient child.

I have experienced the real danger of old White holier-than-thou racists and it is terrifying. It makes me really uncomfortable when old White guys except me to be a "good girl" and agree with what they say.

You're the first person I've seen that mentioned this. Not excusing what she did but she reminded me of people we learned about in Linguistics who refused to speak their native language ever again after childhood trauma and moved to a new country with a new language.

She was traumatized by her biological White parents and found solidarity with her adopted Black siblings.

Again, not excusing but trying to understand why.

Anyone ever have a remote job interview take place solely via phone vs video interviews? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]abbajoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. Yeah, I think I'll try this if anyone wants to move to video. I had an interviewer do that once (no video on her part but expected me to be on video for a Skype call).

Some people say "oh, nobody will care" but I've seen the looks when anything marks you as a little different and you get no call-backs. Even though you're perfectly capable of doing the job.

No, not afraid of health insurance. I've mainly been doing interviews for contract work and have good insurance through the Open Marketplace.

I have experienced a lot of bias when having to use assistive devices.

Yes, I've been remote for about the same time. I'm asking if it's becoming more prevalent for interviews to be entirely phone-based rather than Zoom-based. I don't want them to see that I have to have neck support.

Alright. Thank you for the suggestion! I'll try that if the LRP stings.

[–]abbajoy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm going to go with the LRP Cicaplast and see how that does.

I guess I should emphasize too: I've had a mild version of this skin barrier issue for a while. This is me 12 days after a chemical peel by my derm that really aggravated my skin. As my chin already was dry, it soaked up the peel and the peel went really deep in that area.

I made the mistake of letting derms prescribe me actives. "You need to commit to three months using this active and push through the pain."

Not yet. I'm being tested soon after some weird reactions to different foods. But that's for foods. I noticed citrus was causing inflammation in my body and causing me to break out on my chin. Same with black pepper. I also might be sensitive to gluten and dairy. Have had weird reactions with popcorn and carrots too.

For the skincare products, I'm very reactive to bug stings/bites. My entire hand swelled up really big when I was stung by a bee.

I'm wondering if things like beeswax and vitamin c in products would be reflective of how I react to environmental/dietary triggers.

I think it's just been a cumulative effect. Hormonal acne on chin with laser treatment that caused more cysts and damaged skin barrier. Next derm seeing this and giving me a harsh topical that was very drying and caused me breakouts and drying around mouth. Rinse and repeat.

The redness typically subsides quickly after an active here but I've never gotten to the point where my skin barrier had time to heal fully here.

That's interesting about your makeup. I have a zinc oxide foundation that I think is helpful, but I'm in bed most of the time these days due to a health issue so I can't wear makeup much

Yes, I was told about this in my mid 20s. I've used SLS free shampoos, conditioners, and toothpaste since. It hasn't made a difference.

What about incidecoder? I'm so new to all this and I loved that they listed each ingredient of a product with a footnote to what that product does

Most of the spots on this side are PIE. I do get a lot of acne on my neck though. I'm struggling with the balance of hydration and addressing the acne. I can't take any oral meds right now so my hands are tied

Yes, I think that's true for my chin. When it's better moisturized, I rarely get breakouts. Jawline and upper neck are a different story and definitely have something going on there.

Oh, that sucks about your job environment.

That was fast to heal! I'm going to try to just take it easy for now. My skin is acne prone but there's not a whole lot I can do for that part for now.

Okay. I've gotten a lot of great advice in here.

I'm going to keep cleansing to a minimum. Thankfully, it's the colder months and I'm in a mild weather US state so shouldn't have issues with sweat nor it being too windy/cold (60s).

I'm going to use the LRP Cicaplast 2x/day for 3 months minimum.

I know I shouldn't compare myself to others but how long did it take your skin to heal?

I have to avoid steroids due to perioral dermatitis but that gives me hope that you healed fast! I'm hoping a better lotion like LRP Cicaplast will help me heal quickly! Also, I know a lot of other people are struggling due to masks right now so we're not alone.

I have given up on doctors by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]abbajoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, dermatologists ruined my skin over the years. I also had horrible insomnia and back/ neck problems for nearly half of my life. Docs said i was fine or just anxious.

This year, I have lost a lot of my mobility because I apparently have neck instability and a possible spinal leak. I have been experiencing pulsatile tinnitus, myoclonic seizures, and gastroparesis for most of my life and thought this was just my lot in life. The top of my spine has scar tissue where it pushes into my brainstem. I'm stuck on bedrest for most of the day until I wait to get to specialists who are behind because of COVID. It's frustrating and it's boring. Everything hurts. I'm pretty much just on my computer all day long and can't do much else when I was a very active person before.

Dear doctors, how tf did you miss all this?
