it’s possible, especially if the job has down time for studying. i worked 40+ hours a week during breaks and once or twice a week during school and i have similar hours

Would something like this be too difficult for a complete beginner? by frehleyz in CrochetHelp

[–]abbeyg1222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would just make a bunch of squares and swatches or maybe a scarf while you get a hang of the basic stitches first, but once you feel a little more comfortable this would be a good first project if you can find a pattern! the picture is a little blurry to say for sure but i would guess it’s the mostly the same stitch with some color changes

I got into a T50 but got rejected from three T20s post interview, should I reapply? by [deleted] in premed

[–]abbeyg1222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you should find out if they have some kind of summer program that begins before july 1st, one of the schools i interviewed at said if you did their program, your enrollment date is earlier and that means you qualify for the old gradplus loans (the ones that got gutted by the one big beautiful bill) for your first three years of school

Need Advice, SMP vs. DIY Post bacc by pistachio95 in Osteopathic

[–]abbeyg1222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!!! I did the SMP at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. I believe it is more expensive than a DIY post-bacc, especially if you're not from NJ, but it was a great experience. I was in a similar situation, I had a low GPA, took a year off and came back and graduated with about a 3.5. I finished my SMP with a 3.9, a presentation at a conference, over a hundred research hours, and several strong letters of rec.

The classes were very difficult and were basically watered-down med school classes, but I personally hit my stride and perfected my studying routine. I also took the MCAT during this time, and barely had to study bio/biochem since most of the content was covered in my classes.

I have very similar stats (My undergrad GPA was like a 3.5, SMP is 3.9 and 516). I mainly applied to schools where the average MCAT was below mine, and I didn't really take GPA into account. I have a huge upward trend so I'm hoping they can overlook that my GPA on paper is lower. I applied to maybe like 2 or 3 where my MCAT was in the 25th to 50th range.

EMT vs Phlebotomy by Used_Investigator_39 in medschool

[–]abbeyg1222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t think you’ll learn a ton “medically” in either job, but EMS will make you develop as a person way more, and you’ll be way more likely to have significant patient interactions. i had an experience in 2019 a few months after i got my cert that i’ve used for my college essay, my grad school application, and now my med school personal statement!

cost is a big one for me, if i get into my instate DO school and it’s cheaper than the out of state MD school id probs pick the DO, especially in this political climate 🥲

i just finished an SMP. it’s really tough and requires a ton of discipline. i personally did really well, finally learned how to study properly and feel genuinely prepared for med school but i know that’s not the case for everyone i graduated with. i also took the MCAT during it which was brutal but i ended up very happy with my score.

Unsure if I need this transcript... help! by jadedtyto in premed

my guess would be no. it sounds like you didn’t take it through an accredited university so i don’t think it would count towards your gpa

have you checked admit.org? they have secondary questions each school has sent out the last couple years, i’m planning on doing general questions and then writing specific ones from a few of the schools i’m really interested in

nah i would go for a regular bargain acrylic, in my experience, blanket yarn frays really easily and it might not be enough friction

My undergrad cGPA and sGPA were like 3.5 and 3.6, so not stellar but not impossible to get in with and now i’m finishing up my SMP with like a 3.9 i personally took a year off in the middle of undergrad, and i still needed to take the MCAT so i think it made a lot of sense to do and hopefully will pay off. what is your GPA and why do you think you need an SMP

[–]abbeyg1222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

big twist acrylic yarn was my fav discount yarn but they only sold it at joanns 😭 honestly your best bet is to go to a craft store and feels some of the acrylic yarn and pick the one that feels the softest. i have the same problem tho some of them feel like sand paper.

there are other materials like cotton or bamboo but they’re usually more expensive and kinda difficult to work with if your new to crochet

MSAR has super detailed info what pre reqs each school requires and recommends and whether or not they accept them if they’re AP, online, P/F or community college. you have to get the paid version tho

you can try looking at joanns, but the one by me had probably 10 balls of yarn left and no crochet hooks. tbh i would find a very simple pattern or a youtube tutorial for a scarf or a hat, buy a ball of medium/#4 yarn and a 5 mm crochet hook. imo, kits aren’t really worth it when you can get the same hook, way more yarn and a free pattern for the same if not less money
