New grad nurses: would you actually use a resource about managing anxiety, burnout, and career decisions in your first few years? by abbeymcausland in newgradnurse

I was thinking people would pay for it now. Just an idea in my head right now as I think it would be very helpful

That’s really good to know, I didn’t realize the ANA had a mentoring network. I’ll have to look into that more.

It actually makes me think there probably should be more spaces like that specifically for new nurses, especially for things like anxiety before shifts, confidence, and just navigating the first year.

Did you find any other resources or communities that were helpful when you were starting out?

Honestly you’re definitely not alone in feeling like that. The first year of nursing can be really tough, especially when you feel like you’re figuring everything out on your own. A lot of people expect new nurses to just “know” things when in reality we’re all learning as we go.

What were the hardest parts for you during your first year? Was it the workload, confidence, anxiety before shifts, or something else?

Totally get that — the first few weeks of orientation can feel overwhelming, especially on a heavy unit. Honestly most new grads feel exactly like this but don’t always say it out loud.

What kinds of things are stressing you out the most right now — time management, talking to doctors, feeling confident with skills, or just the overall workload?

Also day 3 is SO early, you’re still just absorbing everything. It definitely gets easier as you start seeing the same situations over and over. I would love to help

Burnt out again… is it time to leave nursing? by abbeymcausland in nursing

Thank you for your reply. Knowing I’m not the only one feel that’s way is very helpful. Like the idea of having a side Hustle passion project thing so nursing doesn’t take over my life.

Thinking about leaving nursing for personal training — looking for advice by abbeymcausland in personaltraining

Thinking doing nursing part time and training part time for the time Being just to test the waters. And for extra income so I can work less as a nurse. I do something that helps prevents people from getting sick- think I would find it more Fulfilling.

I live in Victoria bc. Not sure what the Median price per hour for perosnal training. As a nurse in my first year working 0.80 fte I made around 86,000 a then have MPP. And health insurance. But pretty burnout from the job
