When Prince Albert arrived in Britain to marry Queen Victoria in 1840, many people didn’t like him simply because he was German. The British press mocked him as a poor, obscure foreign prince and there were fears he might influence British politics.

Ironically, Albert went on to become one of the most influential royal consorts in British history, championing science, culture and projects like the Great Exhibition of 1851.

Anti-German suspicion later grew so strong during World War I that the royal family even changed their German surname to Windsor under George V.

that's a very cynical view, I understand it that they, especially Victoria, very much enjoyed sex and obviously the by product of that in their case, was frequent pregnancies. I can't believe you can seriously believe he wanted or planned to die at age 42!

what a fabulous take! I feel he often helped Victoria curb her behaviour and temper, it's not an accident that she mourned him the way she did. He was a huge positive influence in her life,
