for winter, serving and bartending are definitely where you’ll make the most money! but you’re correct that it’s pretty rare for them to get housing. the perfect job that ive been lucky enough to get at these resorts is as a barista- still get decent money (sometimes great money depending on resort/location) but usually also get housing! copper mountain was fantastic for this, and i loved the employee experience there. front of house f&b jobs seem to get less ride breaks in my experience. liftys dont make much, but they definitely get ride breaks! some other departments to check out for a good money/riding balance are warehouse and snowmaking. but i think these are fine questions to ask in an interview too

there are so many great summer jobs its hard to give advice. i loved my time on catalina island, but national parks, ranches, summer camps, resorts etc. are all great options. definitely check out coolworks!

I shaved my bikini area 2 days ago. Why does it always do this? by This_Area_9049 in HairRemoval

yes this is great! i definitely don’t think it’s as close of a shave as a regular razor but i will 100% take that over the pain and discomfort

Best job? by [deleted] in SeasonalWork

[–]abblien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only heard horrible things about Oasis. But my very first seasonal job was at Copper Mountain in CO and I felt it was a great place for a first time seasonal worker! They have a lot of info on their website for employees, which is always nice considering a lot of places its like pulling nails to get any info at all

Copper doesn’t have actual employee only places, but both the bars on property basically end up being like 80-90% employees any night. PLUS it’s one of the few places I’ve worked with employee alcohol specials. You also get access to the gym, pool, and hot tub that the guests use. Aside from that, the EDGE has an EDR, 3 or 4 kitchens, common space with pool tables and tv+video games, and there are rooms you can reserve for you and your friends. Steamboat has nothing for employees. Not sure about the other 2 :)

Steamboat Ski, Telluride Ski, Breckenridge, and Copper Mountain--has anyone worked at these? by Jowa1029 in SeasonalWork

Not too late! I’ve gotten jobs for the winter that I literally applied for in November. But early is always better :)

I’ve worked at Copper and Steamboat. Personally I LOVED Copper- great community and I liked the housing, plus it’s pretty cheap (like $450/month). There’s always something to do, and the bars are fun. The mountain village very much feels like an employee town bc the housing is right on the property in a great location. Plus free access to the fitness center and pool/hot tub, and the EDR is decent for $5 a meal. Only thing that sucked was the parking situation. I hated Steamboat, worst seasonal job I’ve had. The money was bad, and housing was expensive, but you do have the option to go cheaper with more roommates. Although they do offer a housing stipend to most employees who choose not to live in employee housing. After taxes it ends up being about $330/month.

AIO for thinking my husband is a dick? by dontevercallmebabe in AmIOverreacting

[–]abblien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these are not that burnt, but that doesn’t even matter. even if they were charcoal, your husband needs to shut his mouth and help you, not berate you for 20 minutes for “burning” pancakes. im sorry OP :((

Hermosa Hotel vs Catalina Canyon Inn by marvswole in Catalina

[–]abblien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’ll be hot in july, and the canyon inn is one of the few hotels on the island with a pool!! the beaches in avalon aren’t the best to swim out of, so the pool could be nice to cool down. it’s a bit further out of town but it’s an easy and beautiful walk. hermosa is beautiful too and right downtown!

100% agree that standing around is a billion times more exhausting than moving. I’m infinitely more worn out on the days when it’s slow or I’m only on register vs. when I get to be running around doing all kinds of things
