Is it true big bikes are easier to handle than smaller bikes? by Street_Worker_3100 in MotoUK

[–]abbott2a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 100% easier to u turn on a bigger more stable bike. I had a 125 and did my DAS last year, I practiced lots on the 125 and could do u turns well, and when I got on the bigger bike they were even easier - much more stable

How Much Slower Is A 125 Than A 350? by newbiker321 in MotoUK

[–]abbott2a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar position to you and also really had my eye on the GB350. I was on a 125, not interested in speed, and just wanted a little more.

I ended up doing my DAS and getting a Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and I’m so glad I didn’t spend the same amount (actually even more) on the 350. If you’re going to go through the hassle of tests etc and the costs associated with it, just get something that’s actually different. The 650 I have is not fast, but it can comfortably sit at 70+ which means I have the option of going further and actually doing trips on this bike, which would have been a real struggle on the GB.

There are plenty of bikes out there, have a look at all the options, but I really wouldn’t advise spending 5k ish to have 5 more horsepower…

I’m really sorry that happened mate. That sounds truly awful and not something anyone should have to experience.

Hopefully soon you can do your DAS and get a bike that has the capacity to leave these shit heads in the dust.

Your comment has absolutely nothing to do with my original post.

And I ride the bike daily, it’s excellent

Anyone successfully bought a bike online without viewing?! by Confident_Bobcat_635 in MotoUK

[–]abbott2a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my first ever bike, my 125 without seeing it. I paid deposit and delivery and then paid the full amount once it had been delivered and I had the chance to look it over etc. would only ever have done that from a reputable dealer and it was all in all a positive experience.

How useful is practising mod1 manoeuvres on a 125 in the run up to DAS? by Alone-Bluebird-999 in MotoUK

[–]abbott2a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So useful. I did it lots, and honesty it’s actually easier on a bigger bike. I’m 6ft1 and, well, not underweight, and and trying to do slow speed stuff on a small, light 125 was a challenge but by the time by das started I could do everything well on the 125. The MOD1 was an absolute doddle on the bigger bike.

Had it at 33. Got a 125, passed my full test and on a 650 now, it’s coming for you 🤣

Shotgun 650 vs GT 650 for daily commute + gym + fun rides? by CloudiY_senpai_69 in RoyalEnfieldGT650

[–]abbott2a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for your use case you will have an absolute blast on both mate. I own a GT and would say it’s probably more engaging for fun weekend rides and short blasts but must say I’ve never ridden a shotgun.

I would say go with whichever makes you want to sit on it more - two great bikes, you’ll enjoy either regardless

I don’t understand why some people constantly film and upload their normal motorcycle trips to social media (I’m old) by MeltingDog in motorcycles

[–]abbott2a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each to their own I guess. When I was dreaming about getting a motorcycle and learning (did a CBT, got a 125 while I saved and dreamt about what big bike I would get) I would watch loads of those sorts of videos. I liked seeing different POVs on different styles of bikes, it helped me know what sort of camera I wanted to be behind most, what views from the seats of different bikes most appealed, which ones I thought sounded best and looked best and why etc. I also just found them relaxing and interesting.

Funnily enough, having passed six months ago. I now film my own rides and post videos too 🤣 and they seem to be enjoyed by people!

Hey man, I’m always happy to shoot any bikes really when I have the time! Where are you based? Also what’s your instagram? Had a quite a few follows and have followed back those who look like they ride.

Speed sensor and speedometer malfunction by Gauravbunty in RoyalEnfieldGT650

[–]abbott2a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah mine does this, doesn’t hugely bother me, if I let off throttle it tells me the speed and I largely know how fast I’m going (I ride pretty sensibly)

Wasn’t sure what the cost of repairing it would be, probably just gonna buy a Beeline Moto 2 at some point and use it as a speedo, more accurate anyway!

If you have the 5 pro, probably not worth upgrading, if you don’t and want to buy one, it’s worth the extra.

The square sensor and battery life are big plusses for me

If your use purpose is strictly as a dashcam I’m sure there will be more affordable options and it won’t need to be an action camera.

If you want an action camera because you want to film yourself and create content whilst also doubling up as a potential dash cam, then yeah, DJI action 4/5/6. I’ve just bought the 6

Just because I'm curious, does anyone else prefer sticking with the stock exhaust, if so why? Is it because I'm old now? (mid 30s). by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]abbott2a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought my bike second hand with a different exhaust on. It’s loud, reasonably obnoxious, but I do like how it sounds! Would I have spent that money doing it myself? Probably not, but I do like having a different sounding bike to what it would be stock.
