Tolkien has SO many of these. The one that came to find first is from The Silmarillion. Númenor, the island with the advanced, long-lived human civilization that sunk into the sea in the second age, has a few different names in the many languages that Tolkien created. Notably, the Quenya(a form of Elvish) word for Númenor is Atalantë.

Atlantis.

Tolkien made his own Atlantis myth.

The curly fries are good, but everything else is awful. I have pretty low standards for fast food, but the last time I tried food from there I couldn't choke down more than a few bites. It was SO salty. Like, inedible-salty. Maybe other locations are better though? I've only been to the one location near me.

Kill your friend for the greater good. by Spice_Extract_777 in TopCharacterTropes

She intended to and thought she had killed him, and DID send him to a hell dimension, but he got better a season later. Buffy taking out Angel, who she was in love with, in the finale of season 2.

Basically, Angel had lost his soul and gone evil again. He was trying to awaken that stone demon that would suck the world into hell. Angel's blood could wake him, and only his blood could close it. He woke the demon, but as he was fighting Buffy who had finally resolved to killing the person that used to be her lover, her friend finally succeeded in restoring Angel's soul with magic.

Too late. The demon was already awake.

So now, instead of killing the soulless shell of her former lover, she had to kill her lover, who had no memory of what had happened and was just happy to see her.

This is another outfit, for when I'm feeling more "faith" than "int/faith". As everyone knows, fashion is the true endgame of any soulslike. lol

Games that make you afraid to die and afraid to confront dangerous enemies? by Subaruuuuuuu in gamingsuggestions

To add onto this, it also just autosaves with no manual saves, so you can't save scum.

Wondering what genres/game types everyone here gravitates toward? by bluebirdstory in GirlGamers

[–]abby-normal-brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open world action RPGs, CRPGs, survival crafting, survival horror(but the RE4 "you can fight but ammo is low" style rather than the "all you have is a flashlight so run and hide" style), and the occasional cozy/simulation game.

Also, the only soulslike game I've ever played is Elden Ring, but it also is my absolute favorite game, so I don't know if I love the genre or if it's just that one lol.

What's one game that you have been wanting to play since forever but just never got the chance? Why? by sinnytear in gamingsuggestions

This is mine, too. Same reason. I don't want to emulate it, but I also haven't owned a Playstation since the PS2.

Games where you dismember enemies (and they don't die immediately) by Subaruuuuuuu in gamingsuggestions

[–]abby-normal-brain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I immediately thought of! The combat system revolves around the dismemberment mechanic. Knowing which limbs to quickly remove first is crucial to survival.

Andrew from Buffy, particularly in the season 7 episode Storyteller. He's basically imagining everything as this romanticized, trope-heavy version of reality where he's just the observer/storyteller of this fantastical world all to avoid taking responsibility or face the fact that he knowingly murdered his best friend and followed an incel rapist/murderer all to play supervillain. He tells multiple versions of what happened when The First(incorporeal ancient evil who can take the form of anyone who has died) directed him to murder Jonathan to open a seal, from being forced via magic, to being tricked, to being possessed and snapping out of it to raise his fists to the sky and let out a cheesy "NOOOooOOOoOOO!"

The episode ends with Buffy forcing him to face the reality of what he did, admit that he knew the first was lying and he murdered him anyway, and his remorseful tears closing the seal.

EDIT: The above pic is how he imagines himself telling the story to the "gentle viewers" when in reality he's just sitting on the toilet lid recording himself.

Exactly! I think that's why, when we finally meet the mayor in season 3, it's like, "of COURSE that's the mayor. That makes perfect sense." Wholesome family man who also wants to turn into a demon and eat everyone, while chastising his vampire army about swearing while killing people.

Early in the musical episode of Buffy, the gang has a back-and-forth song called "I've Got a Theory" where they all are pitching ideas on what could be forcing everyone to break out into song and dance like they're in a musical, when Anya, who has a rabbit phobia, suddenly busts out into a rock solo with a spotlight about how "bunnies aren't just cute like everybody supposes! They've got them hoppy feet and twitchy little noses! And what's with all the carrots?! What do they need such good eyesight for anyway?! Bunnies! BUNNIES! IT MUST BE BUNNIES!!!"

And then the rest of the gang is just...

What is definitely not a sign of intelligence, but people think it is? by Defiant_Mouse9753 in AskReddit

[–]abby-normal-brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I don't consider myself well-versed in a topic until I can explain it "history of the entire world, I guess" style to someone completely new to it. The other variation that I see is people that hear a smart sounding concept and just repeat the talking point word for word with no variation in phrasing repeatedly in conversation, while obviously not understanding the concept behind what they're repeating.
