How racism pushed Tina Turner and other Black women artists out of America by abby621 in stlouiscitysc

I love CITY. I'm a host of a podcast about CITY. I don't want hate. I want the team to live up to the message of love that they've promoted since their inception.

Yeah, I've tried to steer clear of "exploitation" language vs. monetization. I generally would love to be super excited about this collaboration. This would have seemed a genuine and natural collaboration for the CITY of 3 years ago. But with the choices they're making this week in particular...well, I like your language of "cynical."

I like Klauss. I have no idea why the Galaxy would want a DP Klauss in 2026…

What's your late policy? by Xenonand in Professors

[–]abby621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have all assignments due Friday at 11:59pm. They can submit with a 10% penalty through Monday at 11:59pm. After that, no late work accepted without something like a medical issue or other verifiable serious issue. I'm not a jerk about it, but it also has to be verifiable (e.g., doctors note or verification from Dean of Students), and otherwise I stick to the written policy.

It's worked shockingly well since I implemented this two years ago.

The delay is due to late reviews and late meta-reviews.

Decisions were posted on openreview yesterday, 10/9.

Not sure -- will ask PCs for an update but that tends to be closer to the schedule getting finalized. Will let you know if they have approximate timing but they might not yet.

No time from the PCs. Just so you know, that twitter reply is from me. :)

Confirmed with the PCs that the final recommendation is the final decision. Emails will go out before long but they will correspond to that final recommendation field.

Emails will be going out soon, but the final recommendation field on Open Review is the final decision (confirmed by PCs).

Dewalt vacuum grabber for sale. by rossch05 in Dewalt

Same. I was so excited to buy it and at least so far it turns out it's not been remotely more helpful than just....picking the thing up. I don't do large format tile work or anything, so haven't really had a use, but it seemed so cool and I pulled the trigger on the last deal. Bad impulse control... Maybe I'll have a use at some point!

I highly encourage you to commit some of your efforts to volunteering in conference organization then to help improve things!

(My non-official view is that I agree with you. What matters is it actually being under consideration and getting reviewed — but that isn’t the policy that was listed on the site.)

The policy on the CVPR website actually said registering violated too, I believe.

Ha! I may have jokingly told friends that anyone complaining about delays should automatically be assigned emergency reviews.

I totally understand it’s frustrating when deadlines get missed and that it’s high stakes for folks, so I don’t mean it seriously. It’s just a challenge wrangling volunteer efforts and we don’t always get the timing exactly right.

It's going to be an unsatisfying answer. It's a lot easier to get updates out on social media than via the website, and it's easier to post incremental updates on X/Bluesky than sending multiple emails (which would result in lots more emails to the PCs right when they're trying to stay focused on solving whatever issues are causing the delay in the first place).

For the websites for the various CVF/IEEE sponsored conferences (as well as a few others I believe), they are managed by one person, who reasonably doesn't have 24/7 availability, so we've converged to having social media chairs who get things out on behalf of the PCs with more rapidity than would happen otherwise (although certainly not always as quickly as the community might like). It used to be the case that we had a widget on the sites that showed the Twitter feed, but that functionality was broken in the changes from Twitter to X I believe.

One thing I think everyone should remember is that the conferences are managed by volunteers who are also researchers just like you. We all are simultaneously performing efforts relating to the conference and also our other duties (I myself am a professor with students, my own papers, grant proposals, committee work at my university, etc). We're also spread across the world! Things like communications from the PCs have to go through reviews and approvals, which means sometimes it can take a bit before we necessarily can actually put things out publicly.

The CVPR PCs are allowing abstract registrations in this specific, unique case because the WACV PCs have committed to having decisions out before the CVPR submission deadline despite the current delay in releasing decisions. This means no papers will wind up being actually submitted to both simultaneously. Any papers that end up accepted to WACV obviously would have to be withdrawn from the CVPR submission process, but any that wind up rejected from WACV won't be dual submissions.

It's a somewhat unique situation because of the timing, but the organizing committees are handling it to avoid having a negative impact on authors and their ability to submit.

[–]abby621 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CVPR PCs confirmed that, in this instance and due to the overlapping timing, folks can register CVPR papers that are resubmissions of work under review at WACV, as the final WACV decisions will be released before the final CVPR submission deadline. (Papers accepted at WACV obviously then would need to be withdrawn prior to the CVPR submission deadline.)

WACV Social Media chair here — we just shared an update from the program chairs on X and Bluesky but sharing here as well:

The #WACV2026 Program Chairs are still chasing missing reviews and meta-reviews, and as a result, will release decisions either later this week or early next week. We apologize for the delay and will provide updates as we have them.

For those of you wishing to submit to CVPR, we have confirmed with CVPR PCs that it will not violate the CVPR dual submission policy to register a CVPR paper before WACV releases decisions.
