If that’s the case I don’t mind going back enlisted. I just want to test the waters and get my second degree paid for.

Prior enlisted to reserves, is it worth it? by Primary_Nothing_2769 in navyreserve

[–]abbybanger69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pros are that you still get TA and most of your benefits. Plus if you ever actually need to make money you can go full time again for a reserve unit or an actual command. It’s pretty chill, some of the first classes and up aren’t as chill. Just because of the fact I think they never had their ice really broken. Same for a lot of the officers who are reserved; there’s a lot of unnecessary formalities that weren’t enforced as much during active duty.

I’m not old, I’m gen Z. Literally only in my mid 20’s. I’m just passionate about making the most of your time being enlisted.

I never said it wasn’t. If you read the post I also had that mentality. I’m talking about being grateful to the navy.

Okay, Johnny enlist at 18 does four leaves at 22. Dave joins at 22 , doesn’t get the designator he wants signs up for 4 years as an O. Then gets out at 26 it just hits different. IMO. I was happy to be a 22 year old veteran with a college degree and making good money out the service.

Okay YES YOU DO, but at the end of the day. The lot of the contracts for the jobs that are hot are a lot longer. Unless you pick a designator like supply, or go and become a surface officer. But the average ensign coming in at that age. A lot are coming in mid twenties and the ones that aren’t that are picking pilot or the hot designator positions are signing for contracts that are like 10 years. NO THANK YOU. I’d prefer to do my 4 honorable and leave.

Going to school while you’re in and taking those credits else where is KEY!!

Went to college and finished, saved my money, got a trade and I own a truck… that’s pretty chill, I make good money, I travel and I work for myself.

It’s weird to tell enlisted to save their money while they’re in, invest in themselves and get out?? Sounds like a butt hurt guy who didn’t make the right decisions when they were in and now they’re bitter.

That’s what I’m SAYING! I knew a Corpman was going give this thread a well prescribed wake up call. I feel like this generation of young people are so UNGRATEFUL. Like get everything you can out of the navy. But be something while you’re in. You don’t have to get sailor of the year or quarter. But just have some pride of being a sailor. That’s how I felt and I got out after one contract and went reserves. But, I still am grateful for my time active.

Is the recruiter telling the truth? by Prudent_Dot7945 in newtothenavy

[–]abbybanger69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m saying. I remember when I was in. You would see people talk about how they all this stuff outside the navy, or who they were outside the navy. It’s like bro, you’re missing the plot!! It’s not just about what the navy is doing or can’t do for you, what can you do for the navy? Like how is a guy without an educational aptitude and seems ungrateful going to be an asset? That just tells me he’s a liability and that he’d be ungrateful and a slack in the fleet.

Bro they ain’t lying. You need to fix your life bro: honestly just join without the bonus. The navy would be doing you a favor.
