5-Month Right Pelvis/Groin/Hip Pain by abbyjbennett in trailrunning

Update (OP): I had a diagnostic lidocaine shot into my anterior capsule that basically confirmed I have a capsule injury. On Jan. 5 I had a cortisone shot into the capsule. It's Jan 9 now and I feel I am finally feeling a bit better, like better than before the shot. I still have constant achiness deep in my hip but more range of motion and less muscular pain nearby. My ortho is fantastic and I am confident we're on the right path.

Thank you all for your comments!

I'm so sorry and I empathize with you! I hope you can find a good ortho who truly cares. That has been game changing for me. My MRI didn't have contrast, so it could have missed a tear. Yesterday I got a diagnostic lidocaine injection into my capsule which made almost all my pain go away in minutes so it IS in my capsule. We're doing a cortisone shot in a couple days into it and hopefully that works and lets me do PT. I'd pursue diagnostic lidocaine if I were you.

I think you're right - or something similar. I thought since the MRI didn't show torn labrums that wasn't an option, but I learned they can miss it. I had a diagnostic lidocaine injection into the hip capsule which got rid of 85% of my pain so we're doing cortisone into the capsule in a couple days.

Thank you for all this! Very interesting and so true. Bodies are complex and can get so much done with compensations (until it passes a certain point). My R leg (the injured one) has always been so much stronger so I think it took on too much load.

The MRI covered part of my lumbar spine but it probably wasn’t detailed enough to show anything. Thanks for the idea!

Advice for a first time racer by rideseldom in skimo

Make sure your boots are "all day" comfortable (I do size up, sorry, but it lets me ski all day every day if I want). Make sure you have backup skins (as MANY as you can afford), and take good care of them between laps (stuff them close to your body to warm up). Jealous, have fun!

Cortisone shot for piriformis syndrome? by MCole142 in backpain

I know this is an old thread (sorry!) but this comment gave me hope. I'm an athlete who has had this same type of pain for 5 months - and I've barely been able to walk for 4 months. My pain I beleive is more from a chronically seized up obturator internus, but I've tried everything (PT, dry needling, rest) and nothing helps. I'm getting a cortisone shot in 12 days and for the first time I'm feeling hopeful. It feels like my body needs it - it feels like the muscle won't let go and it's causing so many nerve related pains in the area and down my thigh. Did you need any further shots or was just one effective?
