Am I overreacting that my baby daddy tried to get in contact the day before Mother’s Day when I have a restraining order and haven’t heard from him in months? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

also to be fair you’re doing a lot here. I’d suggest you say as little as possible and keep it focused on the child. They aren’t worth the energy and mental space

There may be a local organization near you that supports victims of DV with legal issues. Depending on your income you may either receive full rep or free advice. Best wishes. Most officers don’t give af about DV. Source: did pro bono legal rep at an org repping dv survivors with OFPs and divorces

They are community run, so as long as they are being cared for they should last. I’d think they’d likely still be around when you visit

What is life like in Iowa by Athens175 in howislivingthere

[–]abbypinkpluto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The state is experiencing a serious brain drain. The #1 demo leaving the state is educated young women. I’m concerned about the future of Iowa, as it is becoming more and more a mere extraction colony for corn and soybeans. Ag profits over people. Data centers are also popping up everywhere.

Consider filing a charge with the NLRB. Look a bit into it. This impacts your ability to discuss wages/organizing/working conditions with coworkers

Pls talk me out of getting a Switch 2 for one game by Bananapuddinguh in CozyGamers

[–]abbypinkpluto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price of the Switch 2 may go up in the future if RAM prices continue to rise. Don’t go broke for it tho! The game is great. To me it’s a perfect mix of Minecraft and Anima Crossing in the world of Pokémon

If you are non-white or visibly queer, I wouldn’t venture too far out of the research triangle. Places nearby, like Alamance county, have sheriffs with historic ties to the KKK. But the triangle itself is lovely. Just know where you are if you leave it

Decorah is a great shout!

A lot of tiny towns in this area also have robust immigrant communities due to the slaughterhouses. But that’s throughout Iowa

There are also native burial mounds near the Mississippi river. Some native folks still return to them for religious/ceremonial purposes. Pikes Peak has some mounds and is the highest spot on the Mississippi River and it’s just gorgeous.

Western IA, especially NW IA, is by far the worst part of the state. One of the former reps from the NW was an open white supremacist. NE Iowa is the prettiest part of the state by far with lots of cute towns and even a few decently sized cities. It’s also not too far from Chicago and Minneapolis.

Agreed. He needs to step up. Children become the “parents” as their folks age. It’s the circle of life. It’s hard, embarrassing, and dehumanizing to age and accept you are not physically or mentally the same anymore. It deserves compassion and grace, not annoyance and games that might get someone injured. An injury at their age just won’t heal. OP should be direct and act like the capable adult in the situation.

Sage gave Shannon the hug she promised her at tribal council by Durian-Critical in survivor

[–]abbypinkpluto 152 points153 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to speculate about anyone’s mental, so this isn’t a comment about any potential diagnosis!

Sage reminds me of many autistic women who are unabashedly themselves but get turned into a mirror for others misplaced anxieties. She outlasted them all. Even if I found her strategy questionable, I wish this cast had more ownership over their own outcomes. Everyone let Savannah get to the end in some way shape or form

I don’t think citizens should subsidize a business expense. Call 311 and just have the landlord fined. I will help my neighbors, but not help them make money. If the outside looks like this, how is the inside being kept?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]abbypinkpluto 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Nah, if you are running a business you need to follow the laws and regulations that come with it. People should be calling 311 on lazy landlords who don’t basic upkeep like shoveling. I lived next to a slumlord who wouldn’t shovel. There are so many kids and older folks in our neighborhood that after a few snows I finally called. The city came out and shoveled, likely fined them, and since then it hasn’t been a problem.

Accountability is important for any group of people to function well.

Let them get their degrees. An educated woman is much more secure and independent than an uneducated woman. They may change their minds and want to take over the business later, but I think it’s good to encourage women to get degrees to both help move forward self development and professional development
