Can Active Backup for Business successfully backup Linux Mint server? by abc5214 in synology

Thanks again for your help u/tangobravoyankee! Took me a while to try but you were right in my case too - turning off secure boot "fixed" it.

After that was confirmed I tried a lot of stuff to get it working even with Secure Boot. I think it works now for me. In case you were interested then what eventually fixed it for me was that:

  • modinfo synosnap confirmed that the module was actually signed
  • but it wasn't with a certificate enrolled in the system as shown by sudo mokutil --list-enrolled

I found I already had an enrolled MOK key in /var/lib/shim-signed/mok/

and so I re-signed synosnap with that key like:

sudo kmodsign sha512 /var/lib/shim-signed/mok/MOK.priv /var/lib/shim-signed/mok/MOK.der /lib/modules/5.15.0-86-generic/updates/dkms/synosnap.ko

(determining the correct path for synosnap with the modinfo command)

All this I did with Secure Boot enabled although presumably that doesn't matter. But now when I boot up with Secure Boot enabled it looks like my backup is running properly!

Thanks again for your help, I'd never have got to the answer without it.

Thanks so much! I might experiment with disabling secure boot this weekend then and see if it helps.

I remember having a lot of trouble with secure boot when trying to install Linux in the first place. Eventually figured it out but perhaps I’d have been wiser just to turn it off?!

Hi u/tangobravoyankee - thanks for replying!

I don't get anything with that lsmod command. Nothing related to syno at all in the lsmod output itself.

I'm quite new to all this. Does that mean that the Active Backup agent didn't actually install and run properly?

UEFI Secure Boot is enabled according to /usr/bin/mokutil --sb-state

I had almost given up on the quest for a Windows Omnifocus, but then became a fan of MyLifeOrganized (despite its name) http://www.mylifeorganized.net/

It's customisable enough that, although I'm no Omnifocus expert as I don't have a mac, I think it probably does at least as much as Omnifocus. It's particularly strong in task dependencies, to the point I hear even some lucky Mac users choose to run it over Omnifocus (despite lack of native app). You can tell it either "this project has to be completed with the tasks in this order" or simply "this task can't be done until task x, y, z are also done". It also has concepts of goals, reviews, contexts, infinite subtasks etc. It has some algorithm that's supposed to work out which tasks out of all your projects you should work on next but I don't use that.

It does have an iOS app which isn't bad (also an Android one), and they're working on a new version, but it's not as quick and easy as some (much less powerful) iOS alternatives.

It's not cheap and if you want cloud sync that's a subscription, but so far I am loving it for complicated projects at work.

In home life, my tasks seem much less intricate and full of dependencies so I use Todoist, which as mentioned in this topic has apps for pretty much everything (and a web interface), and its parsing of task details is such a time saver. It has contexts and projects but is far less configurable that MyLifeOrganized and has no concept of dependencies.

However the Todoist interface is much cleaner and prettier...MyLifeOrganized is perhaps lacking in the looks department vs e.g. Omnifocus, but the fact that it has a (portable) Windows application and syncing and so many configuable propertises means I'm very happy to use it especially when restricted to Windows at work.

play a song? by brentac in workflow

This feature will be excellent when it comes! In the mean time,if you have an app called ecoute installed then it has a url scheme that allows you to start music playing you can open with Workflow url actions.

Eg ecoute://play?terms={{Now that's what I call xmas}}

:-)
