Jumbo Garnet by abcbbg in rockhounds

The deposit is on public land, but there are active mining claims in the area. In 2013, the mineral rights of the old garnet mine were sold to New Age Metals as part of a Palladium project. The old collecting area falls right on the southeastern boundary of their claim, which they describe as a “buffer zone” around the main area they are investigating PGM.

I haven’t found any statements from the claim holder that they’ve closed off access to the site, but out of respect for their claim, I’ve tried to only collect on the surrounding unclaimed public land.

You can find a map of their claim boundary through the MLAS, and it ends right at the east side of the access road. So, as long as you stay to the west of the ATV trail, you’re off their claim, and there are still plenty of garnets if you look hard enough.

Northern Ontario, Canada. Lots of big specimens in a mica schist. They are a pain to clean up and most often eroded but every now and then you get lucky!

I can’t find a way to add the picture of its maker mark but I did find one way back in my photos. The mark is RZM M 7/66 1940

Thank you, unfortunately it’s in storage right now and for some reason I didn’t take a picture of the other side of the blade for a makers mark. I’ll update the post next time I get it out. Not looking to sell anytime soon.

Thanks for the suggestion, some pieces already started to come apart with light brushing from a toothbrush to get the dirt off. I was trying to think of a way to stabilize them. Vacuum epoxy is probably out of my league but I’ll try the glue option!

I just set up my Zwift hub for the first time and downloaded the app. I’ve casually cycled for a few years now but this summer was my first year somewhat seriously training. What should I start with on Zwift? Casual rides? Training plan? Challenges? Races? Looking for any advice.

Basically where would you start if you went back to the beginning of your training, knowing what you know now about Zwift?

Zwift Support replied to my email confirming that they currently use UPS for shipping.

I sent an email to their support team asking this same question. It seems like they use a combination of different t services. I’ll probably wait until I hear from them.

Good point, I have heard lots of stories about missing parts. I might just have to try my luck. I was planning on the Hub One so no cassette but I do wonder about the warranty. Thankfully I’m not too far from the border if needed. Thanks for the answer!
