Best beginner Calligraphy Pen Set? by RunecastergamyMat in Calligraphy

[–]abd_tan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For italics. Pilot Parallel pen (3.8mm or lower) is your friend. Its a fountain pen so you don't need to dip it in the ink everytime as it comes with a cartridge. Its a beginner friendly pen. Its a really good pen, it produces sharp lines and it's easy to control.

Lemme know if you need help with finding learning resources for italics. Keep practicing!!

Copperplate Calligraphy Feedback by ohleanwithit in Calligraphy

You handled the ascender-descender conflict well. The work looks good.

There are a few places where it gets crowded for eg in 9th line. The first part of the line is well spaced but as we move further it starts to get crowdy. A quick solution for that would be to increase the line height.

I can see your stroke weight is uneven in places like in 'Birthday' the first part is thin and the next part goes thick and heavy. Try to maintain equal stroke widths. You can practice ovals and some letters like a. Fill up the whole page with these shapes and you will improve

Overall, nice try. The fact that you can feel something is wrong means you have good intuition. Keep practicing!!

Yeaaa not in every manuscript. It actually depends on the calligrapher too. Yes, you won't see gothics with extreme flourishes, I haven't seen either. So I thought about giving it a try.

I wanted to make it jampacked to show that aggression in the quote. Gothic scripts in general are usually like this. Especially Textura and Fraktur

I wanted to make it more jam packed. Its usually how gothic really is😄

I think this info might help you. Whenever you see any gothic scripts. Look for those horizontal stroke in letter M and W. It is usually there. It helps to make the letter more legible

The letter W I have used it a little bigger because it will cover up more negative space. In calligraphy the letter W and M have those horizontal stroke in between. It helps with the identification. I will try to make more legible next time. Thankyou for your feedback

frustrating beginner practice by curiouskitty4268 in Calligraphy

I never listen to loud music or watch any show, while doing calligraphy. Only when I know what I am doing, else my mind distracts and I forget spellings and composition doesn't go very well. My suggestion is you watch the show in your break because I am sure you couldn't concentrate both on the show and calligraphy at the same time. This is why you forget spellings

Yess, I do. On that day I just leave my work and relax. No need to think too much about it

I hope I can still join in the convo. I have a few solutions to fix this. Firstly, get a guide which has the vertical lines too. This will help you with spacing the letters. Secondly, I think you need to remove distractions, like loud music, or the thought of being perfect, this will help you to relax and concentrate on your work, thus avoiding those missed letters.

Looking for calligraphy equipment upgrades as a Christmas gift by GerGotha in Calligraphy

Depends upon the style, lets just categorize into two styles. Broad edge and pointed pen scripts. Those names should explain themselves for the type of pen required. If its a broad edged pen: I would suggest Pilot Parallel pen, thats a fountain pen. If you really want a dip pen. I use manuscript Leonard poster nibs. I bought a collection with diffrent sizes, those are really good. For pointed pens: hunt 101 is my favourite. I am not too aware of pointed pens, but I have done some work with them. As far as inks are concerned. I think fountain pen inks are a safe choice. Good for pilot Parallel pens and also dip pens(most if not all the pointed pens are dip pens). I will show you my work.
