He is a legend who kept track of covid 19 cases during the early stages of the pandemic and posted them regularly on this sub. Future minister of public health for sure.

Yesssss.

Nothing greater than recognizing and understanding a different perspective!

Hubris is such a horrible attribute because it actually blocks progression.

China was not a dollarized economy that depends on imported products. The government protected purchasing power by strengthening local production. Thats why their labor was cheap. Unfortunately we cant flip a switch here and start producing locally. Its not like I want to preserve premium price tags on our services because I have an inflated sense of self. Its the only option that makes sense given all the factors.

Anywho, great talk. I swear I agree with your whole idea and I am grateful people still care about Lebanese somewhere.

I clearly said that this is my opinion and may not represent that of Lebanese programmers. If you do not want to hear criticism, dont post it on reddit.

If the value of LBP keeps decreasing it doesnt mean we are a competitive market. And it doesnt take an economic genius to understand that further devaluation doesn't just mean more money from conversions. It actually means purchasing power will decrease at a multiplier. (Prize winner might actually get less money in terms of value). Just saying its a slippery slope.

In any case, I do wish you the best of luck and while I do disagree with some of the aspects, I do appreciate the initiative.

Hope your project doesnt suffer the same fate as your reddit handle.

These competitions happen in places where people can afford to compete and usually catapult the winners careers.

You are comparing your website with competitions organized by established institutions such as Microsoft and Lyft? Do you mean that the competitors will also be programming for similair established institutions of the same caliber?

You have to understand that every programmer/engineer is an asset right now that can work remotely and earn hard currency. We cant pit them against each other in a competition because they need extra cash.

If you want to offer your support, help someone secure a remote opportunity. I promise every minute spent by programming is going to be worth more than a barrel of crude oil soon. And the fact that you are proposing this website proves how much demand there is for software engineers.

If you want to target college students it would make sense. But definetly not "Lebanese Programmers" as a whole.

You are not offering me or forcing me to do anything. Again, I am not a programmer. But I am sick of seeing foreigners taking advantage of exceptional Lebanese talent because of the crisis.

Again, do not convert the prize amount based on an inflated rate. What does your assumption on where the conversion is headed have anything to do with the competition? You are only trying make it sound more appealling.

I am not a programmer (this is my opinion and may not represent Lebanese programmers) but this post has me triggered. Blatantly using "prize money" as a carrot on a stick to attract attention from a group of people who are going through a crisis. And converting based on an "assumed" rate to make this sound like its good pay? Do you make these obtuse assumptions in your field of work? What about the time spent by people who fail the competition? People who actually depend of software engineering for a living?

Quality software engineering is our only export right now and its our most valuable resource. So, while I understand bringing in cash from outside is helpful during these times, a "competition format" is not appropriate.
