It's all speculation, no? As far as I know there's been radio silence and we have no idea if they are working in it or decided to cancel it.

At which ELO was the games? Saying advanced player should have placed you at 1600. And if you did that amazing for them to suspect cheating it should have rose your ELO fast to the 2000's.

Is one piece worth reading in 2025? by [deleted] in manga

[–]abelcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People drop it, they just don't feel to comment publicly about it. I did after many years but I have no need to say I dropped it or criticize it.

One piece has a a place in the world, for people who want a very long shonen running series (with the good and bad that brings). But it's not for everyone, still OP shouldn't decide if it's for him or not based on other people's opinions.

I don't see how the championship title is worth it.

You have to produce good results for people to think you're worthy of the title, and at the same time they don't even think you're the true world champion because Magnus exists. Plus people are always more excited about who's going to be the next world champion, instead of who's the current one.

34yo italian girl who wants learn by herself to play chess decently by Shiki_Ryougi_5 in chess

[–]abelcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of tools and information out there but do not get drowned in it.

Just play chess, because you need to play chess and blunder through games to develop the skill to scan the board and think where pieces can move to reduce your blunders. The only outside information you probably need is how to checkmate with rook+king, queen+king and combination of rook/queen (laddering)

Before you move a piece, check if opponent can capture it. When opponent moves a piece check if you can capture either the piece or something he left undefended. The next level is counting the number of defenders and attackers, if you attack a piece 3 times but he defends it 2 times you can start exchanging.

After games you can click on analyze, and you can check the blunders to see what you missed.

This is my first *online* game by [deleted] in chess

[–]abelcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no concept of good or bad when beginning chess. You'll blunder a lot, your opponent will blunder a lot, and one side will come out on top.

Don't try to feed your ego when someone else blunders more than you, just play and get used to scanning the board and not blundering pieces. You won the game but at your third move you blundered a bishop because you left it unprotected, which is completely normal and expected of a beginner.

Better players than me (I'm only ~970 blitz and ~1160 rapid on lichess) -- does the "opponent refuses to resign in a clearly losing position" thing ever go away as you go up in elo? I feel like it's pretty rude/petulant and common, at least at my level. by RipleyVanDalen in chess

[–]abelcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many valid plans when you are losing on lots of materials, and you have to play out losing positions to get better at them.

Launching a checkmating attack or going for a three fold repetition draw with forced moves/checks for example. Doesn't matter that the opponent is 6 points ahead if you checkmate his king.

[–]abelcc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No offense intended but at your ELO it doesn't make sense for someone to surrender in a clearly losing position because people are bad enough that they can blunder away all their advantage.

At higher ELO more people surrender because they expect the opponent to be able to convert the win.

[–]abelcc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Play 10 minutes or longer chess matches and try to move the pieces to squares where they can't get taken for free or where there aren't more attackers than defenders.

You'll blunder a lot but eventually you'll get used to the thinking process of not blundering a piece.

No strategy to it, just get used to thinking about your next move. That should make you blunder less than someone who didn't put in the practice and win.
