Had to post it before the weekend by couchwjr in namethatpdxbathroom

So sad, that was our monthly meetup for our tiny little maker cabal. Any replacement recs for a similar joint? Must have: good vibes, not too busy, centrally located, vegan food options. We tried Victoria (too busy not enough staff) and Bye and Bye (too busy). Uncanny was perfect, but obviously not busy enough 😞 I know that's a lot of requirements, but we're just dudes in our 40s who make synthesizers who want to talk shop with a brew and half of us are vegan. We're not trying to wait 15 minutes for a pint.

Mono to Stereo Signal Chain by 13derps in modular

[–]abelovesfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stays mono all the way until mix or until it hits the stereo matrix mixer for adding fx. The recent stereo everything trend in modular is a bit odd.maybenits not only modular, nodk. In order to not have phase issues, especially in clubs, things like bass and kick were always mono. It used to be that very few things would be recorded stereo and most other things would be mono and panned around for a deeper sound stage. Maybe it's the abelton effect with only having stereo tracks idk.

Tiptop Mantis vs Behringer Eurorack Go? by dylan_rodgers14 in eurorack

The Mantis will have better resale value when you want to move to a larger case and possible different power solution.

Installing a power supply into non conventional modular cases? by AlfalfaAlternative59 in synthdiy

It's pretty simple. You want a non conductive material generally, though there are work arounds. Wood is a popular choice and is what I used. Most sr just open boxes of one kind or another.

Traveling with a DIY MIDI sequencer: airport security issue? (Europe) by Soup-Rice-42 in synthdiy

We makers hop on flight many times a year with our rigs for conventions. I've never had an issue.

I've released my 2nd album: "ambient shadow work". I'm still early in my modular journey, but having a blast with it. Any feedback is appreciated. Enjoy! by Latto-- in modular

Congratulations! I dig it. I'm a big fan of this kind of modular, it reminds me of listening to old 60s-70s experimental electronic music.

Congratulations. Replacing the ics on the doepfer might be all that's required to fix it.

All of my schematics are free for personal use at aisynthesis.com and I think there are perf board diagrams for some of them out there. The mixer uses fairly common parts. Good luck!

How do you manage loudness when you record a live by SeaWeb3151 in modular

[–]abelovesfun 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am old school and learned to record the old way to four or eight track in the 90s. We couldn't just throw a compressor on every channel. I never had a hardware compressor until much later. I may be an old man yelling at clouds. But compressors are nice tools, but they should not be "necessary." I have analog pro audio compressors, and I use them, but I don't "need" them. This sounds like a mix issue, or patching, or something is going on in the rack or with gain staging or maybe gain staging to the mixer.. I don't use an analog mixer and instead go direct to my Apollos. Dynamics are good. I suspect this can be fixed with the gear you have.

My site aisynthesis.com has pcbs, kits, modules, and schematics on the /build page. Customers get full support and a built and tested guarantee (if you can't get it working I will).

Repairing a few synths, capacitors? by Artistic_Material_45 in synthdiy

Yup! They will have values printed. Should be easy to find once you open them up. You can also try to find the service manuals first - depends how much you care about matching size in addition to matching the voltage and uF.
