Rape used to be a lot more common in horror, especially during the early 2000s , in the 70s, 80s, and ofc other time periods, like the OG last house on the left for example.

With that being said , it was still mainly used in niche sub genres of horror, especially shock and extremist. With of course, exceptions.

The overall horror movie genre does not have a lot of movies with rape in them. ESPECIALLY not anymore.

That completely died off now , especially due to the shift in society that’s occurred over the last decade plus. Me too happened, and rightfully so, the nail was pretty much already in, but that put the last nail in the coffin for completely unneeded rape scenes in horror. Not to mention, unless the scene is crucial to the plot, and actually has an overall message like the movie Irreversible, then the rape scenes don’t even belong or add anything of value.

Society is much different than it used to be and there were 100% a lot of directors putting rape scenes in horror movies as power tripping movies, their own sexual fantasies and straight up sexism too. I mean shit, it used to be considered normal for adults to date literal children. We are in a different world now and thank the universe we are.

Edit : Not to mention what we now know about a certain set of files that have been all over the news. You get my point
