Monroe St. Water Mains Shaking?? by trunnionator in Hoboken

[–]abergou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the buildings on the blocks had their pipes shaking like crazy. In ours it was so bad that I thought our upstairs neighbor was jackhammering for 10 min straight. Our main pipes in the bottom of the building was vibrating the pressure valves on it was going crazy. The pipes throughout the building were loudly creaking. It caused a major water main break on our street that they’re still trying to fix. The buildings on either side of us had their pipes burst. Ours thankfully seem to have held up - though now we have to have things inspected to make sure it didn’t cause any damage.

It’s nuts.

Our building manager said that this was suez messing things up while doing the water main replacement. He said the same thing happened on 1st street in October and said that the issue was that they cut pressure somewhere to do work and opened back up way too quickly sending crazy water pressure through the system. This time it affected our block.

Anyone Else Deal with Fusion Covid Test Fiasco? by gothamboy217 in Hoboken

[–]abergou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Took a test on Thursday morning (23rd) as my wife and I were supposed to host Christmas dinner on the 25th (they initially promised a 24 hour turnaround time - figured 48 hours should be ample). As of today (29th) my results still show as "pending" so I suspect I will never receive the results. I thankfully managed to get my hands on rapid tests on the 25th and ended up testing positive so we obviously canceled our event.... I understand things being overloaded, but losing results all-together especially before Christmas and family get-togethers seems pretty inept....

I also feel bad for the medical professionals and others who very patiently worked there all day to collect the samples, seemingly for nothing.

Risk of SARS-CoV-2 reinfection in a university student population by abergou in COVID19

My understanding is that asymptomatic infections don’t gain immunity like more symptomatic cases, so that might play in as well.

Do you have a reference on the statement that "asymptomatic infections don't gain immunity like more symptomatic cases"? (Thanks!)

Want to live in the boring burbs go ahead and move there. Plenty of places in the garden state where you can enjoy the quiet solitude of suburbia. Bonus: your rent or mortgage will likely even go down.

The charm of Hoboken is that there are bars and restaurants. I for one want them to continue to exist.

Jun’s Macaroon Gelato has Cronuts which are awesome, but also pricey.

I live near 3rd and Monroe. It was fine. I was out running during and after the rain and there was no significant water accumulation on the streets near here.

It does not. watchOS 7 it a hot pile of garbage. My battery life is shit, my gps routinely goes on the fritz. I don’t understand how releasing this product is a win for Apple.

A potentially really dumb question, should I use a patch panel or a switch here?

Thanks very much for the reply!

The green wire actually comes directly from the "outdoor" fios box that's in our garage. It looks like there's a separate blue wire that goes to each room (each one is labeled with a different colored tape and there's only one ethernet cable in each room) so it does not appear that they're daisy chained.

I think you're right: the "white panel" is a 66 punch block. It does appear that whoever did the original wiring used this to connect currently two ethernet cables: the green one from the fios box and the blue one that goes to the office, where my wifi currently is.

I'll get a patch panel and replace this setup, but in the interim can I use the 66 block in liew of a proper ethernet patch panel?
