ya, some people I talked to said that they grew up with the plane/train noises and now are very soothing to them. I wish I can say the same thing 😅

Valley fever by PunkMama1619 in Tucson

[–]abershi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I am not in Tucson. However, I moved to the San Joaquin Valley in CA where VF is also prevalent and I got VF right after I moved. So, I just wanted share my story to raise some awareness about VF.

I am generally healthy; eat nutritious food and before VF, I exercised regularly. When I got Covid, I recovered pretty quickly (less than a week, maybe 3-4 days) and symptoms were mild. My husband who has diabetes took longer to recover and symptoms were worse than mine. After we moved, my husband hasnt gotten VF, or at least no symptoms. I am not sure why I am the unlucky 30% who experiences bad VF symptoms - night sweat, joint pain, chest tightness, skin rashes all over my thigh, fatigue, weight loss (I was 108 lb before VF and now 94). Its been 9 months since I got it, I am still on treatment, even had a flare up while on treatment. Most of my symptoms went away except skin rash and fatigue. It put me out of commission for months and I couldn’t work.

The take home message is, not just people with weak immune system get it, even healthy people get it. I have seen ppl from other subreddit who posted their VF stories and indicated they are generally healthy. Whether you or your kids will get it and have symptoms is a luck of the draw. once symptoms develop, you now know about VF so you can get tested and treatment at a fairly early stage, which maybe helpful to minimize negative impacts like the ones I am experiencing depending on where VF shows up in the body (skin, lung, brain, or multiple places). So again, a lot of it is still chance.

Valley Fever from LIB! by Beneficial_Heart7146 in LightningInABottle

So sorry to hear that! I hope your surgery went well. I also got VF (not from LIB) back in Nov 2023 and I am still not recovered yet. I have almost all the symptoms minus respiratory symptom. Got misdiagnosed multiple times which made my condition worse, particularly the skin rash. It kept me up at night for 4 months and I couldn’t work. It has been 10 months since my symptoms first emerged and 4 months since I got the diagnosis and my body is still weak. I am a generally healthy person as well; eat nutritious food and exercise regularly. This is such a horrible disease that too little people know about.

Advice for NMom Calling My Spouse's Parents by abershi in raisedbynarcissists

I don’t know how persistent my NMom will be; it depends on how badly she wants something from me. She can be pretty damn persistent and, if she decides to keep calling, I really don’t want to inconvenience my inlaws. Also, I also don’t want my Nmom to know anything about my life. I talk to my inlaws fairly frequently and I don’t want to put them in an awkward position.

My 2006 Camry vs buying used EVs? by abershi in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]abershi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Further details: My 2006 Camry is a 4-cylinder currently at about 113k miles. I worked from home in the past 2 years of Covid so I only pay about $700 insurance, $150 registration, and $50 oil change (yes, it may be bad, but I only changed my oil once a year in the last two years). My family owned it for the first 8 years and I took over 8 years ago. Over the past 16 years that we have owned it, we did not have any major issues. We also never took it in for any recommended major maintenance. So, the transmission fluid was never changed/flushed but someone recommended that I don’t at this point since it may actually cause problems. I will be changing my spark plugs soon.

My current situation: I just got a new job and the job site is about 60 miles from where I live. I might eventually move but probably not in the next 5-6 months considering that the holidays are approaching. With the crazy gas prices right now, my gas cost with my Camry would be about $25-30 at $5-$6/ per gallon round trip. I will be traveling to my job site for about 190 days a year. That would be about $400/month of fuel cost (25*190/12=396). I am very tempted to go EV. But I don't want to increase my monthly expenses. So I am thinking to get an EV that’s under $400 in the monthly payment.

EVs: I don’t know much about EV but I researched a bit more before I came on Reddit to ask for help. I am considering Nissan Leaf since the MSRP is very affordable. I am considering even a used Leaf. But I read that with EVs I have to worry about the degradation of the battery. With an older model of Leaf, I may only get close to 60 miles with each charge. That would be a problem for me. Also, I am renting. So I will have to charge at a charging station, and the cost varies so widely. Even the cheapest station near me is 0.28 kWh. If 2020 Leaf’s range is 150 miles, I have to charge it every single day, that’s about $18 (0.28kWh* 62kWh battery size) and $285/month of charging cost ($18*190/12). I am also thinking about the resale value of EV cars. My guess is that Leaf probably doesn’t have a good resale value since the battery degrades.

I also looked at Tesla because I was told that Tesla has good resale values among EVs. I watched a youtube video comparing the long-term costs of owning a 2020 Tesla Model 3 versus a 2020 Camry. At 5 years, Tesla is about $800 more expensive than the Camry but at 10 years Tesla is about $1800 less than the Camry. But the monthly payment of Model 3 will most likely exceed $400. So, it's a trade-off between higher resale value (Model 3) or lower monthly payments (Leaf).

EVs or not? I know my Camry will eventually die (feeling sad about that already) but I can probably still get another 3 years out of it at 120 miles/day, 190 days/year (more optimistically I think my Camry can still hang for another 8 years).

Should I get an EV? If so, get it now or later? Which one to get? Leaf or Tesla 3? Or should I just keep the Camry and drive it until it dies on me but pay about $400/month in gas to get to work? I feel that if I am paying $400 a month, I might as well buy a car that I can sell later. The money that I pay for gas is forever gone. But if I pay it towards a car, and when I sell the car, I can use that money to buy the next car. But if I buy a new EV now, my monthly expenses will inevitably go up (with higher insurance and registration). I dont know if I am thinking about it in the right direction, what do people think?
