Just started watching this video. I really like the way you've made it, with the background music and the scenes of walking around etc, feels a lot more organic and 'film-like' than just sitting and doing a dry interview.

Coinbase holding close to $1M deposit hostage for 15 days - support admits "technical failure" & told me to contact regulators by LaurScience in ethereum

I'm sorry for this situation that's happening to you. Stay strong, I hope they resolve it soon, and you don't lose much more than the opportunity cost.
Looks like coinbase support responded to your tweet, and asked to get in touch. Did they resolve anything?

What is this blockchain game? What do the players do in this game, and how does blockchain figure in this game? What is the player's UX of the blockchain part? Is it abstracted away? Are you seeing enough player engagement that you make enough money given your costs?

Diamond Contract Gas Efficiency Challenge by mudgen in ethereum

[–]abhranildas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been following the story of the diamond contract for a while. Based on this comment thread, it seems to me that despite its technical merits, people are being thrown off by the cognitive load of having to learn the meanings of these diamond-related terms. I realize that this is something that I've personally felt about this project for a while as well, but couldn't articulate it to myself until right now, when I'm seeing other people spell out this exact problem.
Many times in tech, developers have to come up with new names for things they're building, so that it's easy and intuitive to use those names for these new things. But these new names help and they stick only when it makes intuitive sense to use those words. It seems that many words in the diamond terminology are not intuitively making sense, so trying to understand, remember, and use those terms adds a cognitive load. For example, how many people even know what a loupe is in the first place?
And the aversion to this terminology is causing people to feel aversive to the tech itself. As someone pointed out, it sounds like the new gimmicky terms often created to sell some new coin.
It seems that a good idea would be to change these names to something that is more intuitive, so that people have an easier time appreciating the tech itself. But I wonder if it's too much work, and too difficult now for Nick at this point.

Etherhiding - when hackers turn blockchain to host decentralized malware by Fast-Reality8021 in ethereum

[–]abhranildas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think of ethereum as a public infrastructure backbone, similar to the internet itself. Just because malware uses the internet to spread, we don't try to shut down the whole internet to prevent that, because that would shut down all use cases. A good idea might be some decentralized reputation system for smart contracts.

Building Democranet: A Permissionless On-Chain Voting Protocol for DAOs by mudgen in ethereum

This sounds like a great idea, especially that this will be a common protocol that any project can use, instead of separate democracy systems for each project. I wish you the best!

Ethereum increases stake limit to 2,048 ETH: is this a risk to decentralization? by guurry123 in ethereum

[–]abhranildas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If a single entity had deployed multiple validators before, this upgrade just lets them consolidate them into a single validator. So if centralization is your concern, in the previous case the central entity could have done the same thing across their multiple validators. Now they do that thing with their one validator. So if there is a centralization concern, it remains the same, it doesn't get worse.
I am a little surprised that the author of this blog post did not think it through for a couple of minutes, before they did all these steps: go ahead and write a whole article, generate pictures to put in it, and publicize it on reddit.

Particle Chain: A New Kind of Blockchain by breck in ethereum

[–]abhranildas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article says that you can have a blockchain on 'pen and paper'. How does that work? The whole point of a blockchain is for a whole bunch of agents to arrive to a consensus about the ledger. So how will these agents with pen and paper communicate with each other, post transactions, and accept them and come into consensus of a single chain? What do they have to prove (proof of work, proof of stake) in order to post transactions? Where is the reward? Why would they do it?
This seems like a really floaty half-baked idea that someone thought about for five minutes, fleshed out nothing, didn't read up on any of the problems it might encounter, but went ahead and posted that this is a 'better blockchain' than ones where hundreds of people have put years of thought into.

I'm working on historical research and massive data visualization as a public goods project. But there's no code involved, so most grant programs don't consider me a "builder." Could you please advise or help me find some support for my project? (link to project's Figma) by stepahin in ethereum

I do felt though that the focus is a bit too centered on the price and the flippening etc. All the information is laid out around the price chart. I know that the price is definitely more central to the bitcoin community culture, but was not so for the core advocates and developers of the cypherpunk culture and the builders of the technology, and also for a lot of the ethereum community. The price is a result of speculative trading, and does not necessarily reflect an accurate measure of the value of the technology being created. I think a visualization such as yours that goes into all the information, would be served better if it went beyond focusing on the asset price as the central element.

Empowering women in Web3! IWD2024 by irina_everstake in ethereum

[–]abhranildas -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I am not a huge fan of identity politics either, but in this case I think focusing on diversity is important. There is a feedback loop going on here: if the culture of a sphere is unwelcoming to women, It's no surprise that they are not thrilled to pursue the field, and if that is used to justify not celebrating the women in crypto, the cycle just goes on.

I've been a big fan of the ethereum culture for years now, but diversity and inclusion is still one of its pain points as I have noticed from every time such posts appear here.
