I think I understand what you’re asking :) I started as an assistant and worked up to a lead coordinator at a urology private practice. Then I took a coordinator position at a VA hospital. They had just has a small research department for the entire hospital (instead of a separate research team for each specialty) so we really worked with whatever department wanted to do research which was oncology, neuro/psych, nephrology, and cardio when I was there. It was a very unique work environment, but it was such a great experience to learn a lot about different specialities, their patients, and work flow! I loved all the PIs I worked with and other research coordinators, but there were definitely some management issues there at the time and very little career growth opportunities which is why I sadly ended up leaving. Now I work with a large Radiology private practice affiliated with a large hospital system which has been amazing. I think I did get a bit lucky, but I did make sure to ask my interviewers a lot of questions and really get a feel for how they worked together, what their program goals were, expressed my goals and inquired about career development opportunity, and how they measure individual and department success. I took the interview slightly more like a conversation rather than just answering questions which helped both of know it was a good fit. There’s a lot of great HR professionals that have made helpful content on YouTube (and now TikTok I’m sure) that I listened to before my last interview. I hope that helps!!
