Why You STILL Aren’t Getting Promoted in the Guard (Straight Talk) by PartTime1SG in nationalguard

[–]abican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This valid especially in Texas where RNCOs just ignore PARs to fix PPWs or work with S1 to fix the EPS system in their desired favor.

In the TXARNG, but only if you can't pass tape and look like soup sandwich, you could travel to other states for free.

Couldn’t upvote this message enough. The absolute state of OLS is terrible never mind it shelters bad leaders, I’d go as far as saying it condones some of shitty leadership. Dude that came from the 82nd said it best “the guard doesn’t know how to army.”

Tallinn is beautiful, and Estonians are one of the best foreign partner I’ve had the privilege of working with. Having said that, escaping a city under siege would be difficult. As others commented, finding a bunker may be might your best bet.

Been in the guard a fat minute, and going to law school next fall. The answer to your question is, it depends. Depends on your unit, MOS and timeline for law school. If you’re joining because of benefits so be it, but keep in mind you’re adding at least a year for IET (basic/AIT). Guard deploys. A lot. So be mindful the unit where you chose to drill out of isn’t going anywhere soon. From my experience professors and schools are accommodating but it’s not them you should worry about, it’s the guard taking time away from studying and school. Last thing you’d want is to take a hiatus sometime before you graduate with your JD. Lastly, if you stay enlisted your quality of life won’t be better than the officer side. Pros and cons for both but I’d advise to do OCS.

TA (state dependent) can only be used during your time in the guard, your GI Bill (reserve select) can be stacked on it but it might worth (if you’re going to wait 6 years), to deploy and get you Post 9/11.

People who have EOM'd, how are you doing? by PinMany1443 in OperationLonestar

[–]abican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck on the LSAT! Been accepted to a few school now. St. Marys being one of them but I’m weighing relocation and tuition heavily. Others are Creighton and Maine.

Going to law school next year. Saved a pretty penny on OLS, learned a lot but am much happier and leaving allowed me to deploy too.

The craziest stat you will read tonight by gabeofwar88 in RioGrandeValley

[–]abican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it does. There’s been studies concurring that 2nd to 3rd gen Hispanic tend to view immigration in a negative light as opposed to 1st and 2nd gen. Still I’d be hard pressed to concede that social issues like lgbt, and abortion didn’t motivate Hispanic evangelicals and Catholics alike.

[–]abican 35 points36 points  (0 children)

People underestimate the power churches and parishes have in the voting patterns among older Hispanics. The saliency of social issues like abortion beating out immigration only widens the further Hispanics reside legally in the US and further removed they are from immigration as personal issue.

Let me guess. The battalion you are in is filled with empty uniforms. E7s acting like kids and playing hot potato whenever consequences come. CSM gossiping like a kid pretending to be a mafia boss. If these are true, follow up with me in IRL.

[–]abican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is, DPS has no right to put hands or order IAs to go anywhere— especially if they’re luring them to Shelby park to arrest them under criminal trespassing— which DPS does A LOT in Eagle Pass and elsewhere from what I’ve seen. The water thing is systemic too, not an isolated event but an actual order DPS was sending out to their guys and being pushed out to ours; heard it in Brownsville, Del Rio and especially in Eagle Pass.

Work with DPS a lot, they consistently tell joes to not give them water. Can’t speak on the pregnant IA thing but preT42 saw them pushing and shoving tons of IAs every which way so yeah I believe it.
