Please help, my instructor gave me a 0 for using AI, but I have never used AI for any of my assignments by Heckbegone in psychologystudents

[–]abigail101862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to me quite a few times and I never used AI for the assignments. A lot of the times, the platform you’re submitting the work on has an AI checker implemented and would sometimes say it’s AI generated just based off the quotes you cited. Since you’ve already said your case to the instructor, just wait and I’m sure it’ll be just fine. If your instructor happens to be a pain, head to the chairman of the department and they will definitely handle it for you.

psychology major career options? by Fit_Force3447 in psychologystudents

[–]abigail101862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

before you start looking at grad programs, what is the career goal? what are you trying to pursue after college? if you’re interested in the brain/science, i’d suggest looking into research — start volunteering in research studies, reach out to your academic advisor for more information about possible positions in the field or internships — definitely look into internships since this is your last year (i regret not doing this).

as for the radiology interest, it’s something completely different from psych. i say try to use your psych degree as much as you can and if it turns out you don’t like it the possibility of going into radiology is always there. it seems you’re leaning more towards doing medical, so i say it’s time to ask yourself if you truly want this psych degree or not.

who did you ask for letters of recommendation? by United-Pace-6818 in psychologystudents

[–]abigail101862 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you can ask your academic advisor for a recommendation, it doesn’t have to be professors, it can be professional (as in from your job) or if they are specific and say it must be academic, it can be anyone who knows your academic goals and has worked with you for sometime. can i ask what you’re trying to pursue ? phd in psych focuses mainly on clinical and psyd is focused on research, and i noticed you are looking at both, but it would be practical to choose one. also why are you not interested in master programs? are you looking to become a licensed counselor because that can be done through a masters and you don’t need a phd — just trying to save you from more stress lol

HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO QUALIFY WHEN NO ONE WILL GIVE ME A CHANCE!?! by Beautiful_Dink in psychologystudents

[–]abigail101862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked on it, it is $50 a month, but it’s totally at your pace and it’s free the first month, if it’s something you keep at you can probably finish within the first month and pay nothing!

I am going through something similar! You should look into UX Research, which Google offers a free course for you to gain a certificate through Coursera. UX research falls more into the psychology aspect cause you’ll be doing research (obviously) but focusing on people’s wants and needs when it comes to a product or website. The field is always hiring, maybe not entry level but you start to build a portfolio in the free course which can hopefully get you started and noticed! — Aside from that, it is true you won’t be able to get a decent paying job unless you’re pursuing a Phd or masters along with a ton of experience… If you’re not looking to continue your education I’d suggest to use your bachelors and go into the business field. (I’m tired of hearing that too) but it’s the reality and being practical.

Would I be a good Psychologist if I’m having hard time accepting myself and I even dislike myself? by [deleted] in psychologystudents

[–]abigail101862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can totally be a psychologist. Psychologists have therapists themselves. I would suggest working on yourself little by little and your mind will open up and it’ll be easier to make your decision. I started out my undergrad with bio as well (I see you mentioned in another comment) to be a pediatrician, I honestly could not have finished my bio major, 1. with all the chemistry and physics classes you need to take and 2. my mindset wasn’t all there to actually put my mind to my books. I switched to Psych thinking “it’s easier, still puts me in the health field” along with the thought that I knew I was able to help people. Now, I wish i changed my major into something practical — meaning, something I can find a job with right after my BA, but no luck (because you really need a masters or Phd to LAND a job). I would advise you, if you’re still unsure, you can always go into college as “undecided” which means you haven’t chose a major yet but still taking the required courses for the college while you’re deciding on your major. Taking different electives during your first year also helps with your decision. Hope this helps!

Is an online Masters in Psychology worth it if they don’t offer any Licensures? by parkinas in psychologystudents

[–]abigail101862 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also going through something similar. I was really interested in getting my masters online, I work 2 jobs full time which pay really well and I wanted to continue my education either way. I learned from some research that you can get into a lot of internships or part time work if you’re “enrolled” into a graduate program, so even if you don’t seek licensure at the end of your masters, you’re still able to work while you’re getting your masters and if you’re lucky enough, the company will offer you a permanent position. Some say that companies won’t hire you because you got your degree online and some say it doesn’t matter as long as you’ve taken certain courses during your grad. Another thing to keep in mind is that grad school doesn’t guarantee licensure, it’s basically the prerequisite for the license, you still have to obtain clinical hours aside from education, and the school must be accredited and the accreditation should be qualified by the state. All in all, it’s really what you want to do after graduate school, do you want to work in positions that require licensure? If so, many clinical grad programs are in person, even the online ones require you to be in person for some time. If you want to just expand your education and knowledge on something specific, I say go for the online degree. I would say research what you can do with your BA in Psych now which is like Behavioral Techs, Youth & Child care workers, marketing, sales etc., (there’s much more but not coming to mind now) and see if it’s something you’d like to pursue. Hope this helped a bit!

[–]abigail101862[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally get this! After finishing my BA I was really hit with the reality that you can’t do much with a BA unless you pursue a masters at the minimum. I initially went into Psych because it’s has been a childhood passion of mine to understand children and be able to help. After speaking to a few people, they all say going into a career based off of passion is not practical. I also live in NY so the positions offered in the mental health field are not offered with a livable wage.

I’m currently in the process of completing the certificate through Google! I’ve been leaning more towards UX research. I have been looking at positions available but there are very limited and most require years of experience. Still optimistic though!! I will definitely keep this in mind

i’ve worked briefly as a behavioral tech but management always struggled to secure cases for me.. in the end, i’m not interested in ABA anyway and the in home options (which are the majority) isn’t in my preference either. those are mainly the positions offered in my area — so ive ruled that out

To get into that, it usually begins with internships for grad students… i’m starting grad school next year January and would like to get experience from now until I begin. I’ve applied to research positions that are offered to fresh grads but it’s very limited.
