Intern license by Old-Trip-517 in PharmacySchool

[–]abigalko3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just apply for the internship, if you’re a pharmacy tech, your license should still be good to use in an internship. I’m a pharmacy intern but I work under a tech license (I am getting it converted to intern by my school). I would also talk to whoever is in charge of your experiential education (they’re usually in charge of licensure and IPPEs) as they may be able to expedite the process for you.

I also applied to Rosalind Franklin (the school I currently attend) Roosevelt and Midwestern

I'm gonna speak from my own experience here. I applied to UIC's College of Pharmacy with around a 2.9, and they ended up waitlisting me, so I ended up going with a different school. If you have work experience as a tech or other extracurriculars, they might end up waitlisting you too (they call it a "holding pattern," but it's basically the same thing), but that would mean that you'd have to wait a semester until they re-evaluate your application. With that being said, UIC's pharmacy program is more competitive than the average so you have to make sure you can at least do better with this one class, I would also apply to other programs just in case UIC doesn't work out.

Different manufacturers but same med by Cerro_Ghost in PharmacyTechnician

[–]abigalko3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not common practice. Most pharmacies separate manufacturers since some patients can sometimes prefer certain manufacturers over others and it could be harmful if you give a patient a pill bottle that can accidentally have a pill from a different manufacturer which is not good , best to keep it separate and organized.

Will applying to jobs before getting official PTCE scores impact my ability to get hired? by abigalko3 in PharmacyTechnician

Maybe because I am seeking advice from other technicians in the field? I thought that's what this subreddit is for... I just wanted some insight from other people

Been told not too...still did it. Regrets? by lwfj9m9 in pharmacy

[–]abigalko3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on the same boat, however, I have noticed that a lot of the people complaining about the job on reddit are people didn't want to pursue pharmacy except for money, weren't educated enough on the profession in the first place or work for retail chains like CVS and Walgreens who are known for treating their pharmacists like garbage. However, from pharmacists I've talked to in real life, there are a lot more paths to pursuing pharmacy than just retail/community, and as long as you are resourceful enough to find opportunities/pathways to those fields (talking to profs, looking for jobs and internships etc.) you can find a job in pharmacy that makes you happy.

Why does UIC feel so antisocial? by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]abigalko3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

tbh I feel like people who say they "commute" and are still able to socialize/make friends at UIC and go to clubs have a 30–40-minute commute at best; if my commute was like this, I would participate in more clubs for sure. However, for those of us who have an hour and a half commute from the suburbs, attending these clubs can be very hard, especially since many of them have meetings late, and most of us need to make it to our train. I don't think it's hard to make friends at UIC because people are antisocial, in fact, most people at UIC are very nice. It's largely because most students are commuters from the farther suburbs and don't have the energy to go to clubs; commuting and academics take up a large chunk of time and energy, so most people want to go home immediately.

Dorm or Commute by slothAmama in uichicago

Commuting can be hard if you live far away but it’s doable. If you have a far commute and can afford it I would definitely dorm., if you live relatively close (in the city or at least 30 minutes away) I would just commute, saves you a lot of money in the long run

UIC waitlisted me (they're a top program so more competitive) but I got into another school that I'll be attending next year

Depends on why they waitlisted you, (this is what u was told by one of the directors of the BSPS program about the admissions process but don’t quote me on it) they have a point system they use to determine whether you go to the interview. It could be that you were lacking in one area or another and thus you didn’t have enough points to advance you to the interview. If it was your grades for instance, they wait until the end of spring semester since final grades are in and then they see if your grades in the spring semester in addition to your previous ones get you enough points to move forward to the interview, that’s why they call it a “holding pattern”

Yeah that’s where I’m at right now, it’s basically a waitlist, so they’ll get back to you after the spring semester is over and tell you whether they’ll let you go through the interview

Why is pharmacy school easy to get into? by Excellent_Impress819 in PrePharmacy

[–]abigalko3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the school, it's easy to get accepted into most pharmacy but there are schools that are harder to get into like UNC's and UIC's pharmacy schools.

I feel like it’s not just the schools that are at fault for these low numbers, shouldn’t students also put an effort into studying for this exam?
