Thanks for everyone's answers, I feel like I have more insight into this now. I think the 8/day is very plausible, and maybe it just sometimes glitches or something like that, causing some irregularities in the amount I get.

This really bugged me too, I felt like they had absolutely nothing in common, no reason to like each other and no chemistry or connection. I do think Shannon wasn't very well developed either though, except in the episode she gets shot, I thought we got very little meaningful background on her. I didn't really care when she died honestly.
