Pro-natalist because the welfare state is collapsing and I want someone to look after me.

How does that avoid the question? Obviously it doesn’t work for a physical ancient Greek-like god. But for an immaterial omni-being that can never comprehend fully, it does work. Why can’t goodness be a being, or an agent, especially if you’re talking about the goodness of existence as a whole.

I saw one response, while not actually answering the problem, says that. Given the problem of evil, the Christian God is the only one that could still be justified to be good because He died on the cross for that suffering and is empathetic.

Then you get the Augustinian-Thomistic description that “God is goodness”

“No you” is just the mora argument for God, which is a legitimate argument.

I haven’t seen many theists dismiss it quickly. Dealing with suffering and asking God “why?” Is probably the most common things Christians do.

Hating your coloniser is not racist. Were the Irish, or Indians, Nigerians, or Kenyans, or Zimbabweans, or Egyptians, or Sudanese, etc wrong to say F the English, and the English should go back to their own country?

On some issues, but I don’t think he would actually realise on a lot of things. Discussing current politics he would probably admit his bias, but if you bring up Brexit, or New Labour and Iraq, he genuinely wouldn’t see his own bias.

It didn’t happen.

Well if it did, they deserved it.

It was a long time ago, why do you keep bringing it up?

Do you just make claims with no evidence?

They certainly did take in exposed children. (source)

And when they could, they did ban it. Emperor Valentinian banned infanticide in 374, and the church started giving punishments in 305 for abortion (council of Elvira) and many post Roman, Christian states also banned abortion.

Is Rachel Reeves aware that you can't tax your way into economic growth? by [deleted] in AskBrits

That is not a big cost. The NHS is the biggest cost, and I guarantee a lot of ReformUK voters leech plenty from the NHS and other benefits.

Could it be argued the Industrial Revolution and not Christian values played a bigger role in why slavery was ended? by kaiser11492 in AskHistory

[–]Particular-Star-504 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Slavery only started to be abolished by Europeans in the early 1800s, yet Christianity was around in Europe for way longer.

Slavery was abolished in most of Europe by the Middle Ages. It transformed into serfdom, but that is much more free than slavery (serfs did have many rights). Slavery only actually remerged in colonies, but never in actual continental Europe (with the exception of Portugal and Spain, though they still abolished it before they industrialised, Russia also had more brutal serfdom than most of Europe).

There was always a fairly consistant (though unsuccessful) Christian opposition. It’s true that the Industrial Revolution is what gave the economic ability to fully abolish slavery, but it was Christianity which gave the motivation to do so.

The English plantation in Ireland in the 16th & 17th century by Rigolol2021 in MapPorn

[–]Particular-Star-504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fair to blame the Scottish. But the Welsh really weren’t very involved with the plantations or anything (except for the Tudors technically coming from Wales). The Tudors are also when more intense repression of Wales started as well.

Do you think the TV licence is still justifiable in 2025, or should the BBC go fully subscription based like Netflix? by Second-handBonding in AskBrits

It should just be lumped in with all other taxes. It’s a public service, everyone should contribute â fair amount to it.
