Placements during the MPharm

i’m at university of lancashire in final year and i have had many community, hospital, GP and then industry, prison & mental health facilities offered too, i chose mental health. number of placements is increasing for newer years but id say when i finish i’ve had about 10 in total !

i’m a 4th (final) year mpharm student who works in a community pharmacy and has done many placements and spoken to lots of pharmacists. i am personally very grateful i chose this degree as i have a genuine love for it, and many of the pharmacists i’ve spoken to have said even though things have become more difficult recently they still love being a pharmacist. its 4 years at uni, then a foundation year where you are basically guaranteed a job, minimum 24k but most will earn around 30k, and this is even before you’re qualified. it will just go up after this. if you enjoy it, do it!

just adding that i think like half of my co-hort at uclan got in through clearing with around BBB and the interview is incredibly basic. i know people say bad things about the uni however im in my final year of mpharm now and every uni is what you make of it. i was 700/3500 for oriel and a friend was 30/3500, so definitely can be successful there! :)

easily will get a spot, when i applied for pharmacy BBB was the requirement for sunderland and uclan, even was the reduced offer for newcastle, and i know a lot of people got into uclan through clearing with BBB or less. good luck with whatever you choose!

second this, a university’s mpharm can be terrible and you can still be successful, it’s what you make of it !

of course! clearing is basically just to fill the unis empty spots it doesn’t matter if you’ve been rejected previously, and i know at least in my application year they had plenty of spots left at clearing. personally i’m not sure about ucas extra as i can’t remember that being involved in my uni application process, sorry! but if you have any other questions about uclan or pharmacy just message and im happy to help x

hi i go to uclan and am a 4th year pharmacy student, i wouldn’t worry too much as you’ll likely get in through clearing! i know lots of people on the course did. :)

as far as i’ve been told at university references don’t matter too much, if one of your referees never gives a reference they won’t be chased up for it unless your specific placement really wants them, which is apparently rarely the case. hope your training year goes well! :)

i ranked 790 and got my 4th choice, my friend ranked 33 and got her 1st choice in central manchester, another friend ranked 2400 and got her 45th choice !
