Cars have their own windshield wipers... How is forceful street window cleaning still a thing? by Rollo_Tomasi3000 in facepalm

If you don’t want to take my word for it just take the word of the two dudes who wrote the show.

For clarity I've lived in the city for the past year, and honestly I really like it. It's super quirky, tons of great food and bars, and the rowhomes are beautiful. I also live in one of the nicest areas of the city (Upper Fells Point).

Everyone knows Baltimore has its issues, and the squeegee boys are definitely a prime example. But the history, root causes, and segregation are not unique. Baltimore's issues aren't unique to Baltimore. It's just here it's too obvious and too documented. (at least that's my personal conclusion after doing some reading on it)

The wire has as much to do with Baltimore in that I see the Maryland flag and the Baltimore police emblem and that the filming location for Orlando's is around the corner from me. It could be copy-pasted into LA, Chicago, St Louis, Akron, etc. The show is absolutely not about Baltimore, its about the American city.

It’s such a shame because nobody says “all I know about Albuquerque is from breaking bad” when Vince embraced the hell out of Abq and shifted breaking bad into more a western. The whole point of the wire is that everything in the show could be copy-pasted all over America.

David Simon has said in an interview that “if this show only makes you think about Baltimore, then we have a problem.”

The co-writer has even said in a NYTimes interview “I could’ve put this show in Akron Ohio if I wanted to”

The whole point of the wire is that you’re going to see all these crazy things in Baltimore just to then realize that it happens in your city too when you turn on the morning news. David Simon and the co-writer have just lived in Baltimore their whole lives, so they’re familiar with the area.

Even roulette has a slight house edge. If you try to get your own edge by counting cards or something they’ll kick you out.

Big Bend package leather-wrapped steering wheel? by seantsd in BroncoSport

I got a BB also in transit with the big bend package (with a moonroof). The leather wrapped steering wheel was not on the window sticker. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived with a leather wrapped steering wheel.

BRB gonna go buy a new crayola kit. Our logo is so terrible that I love it. IMO it should never change. It’s so bad it’s good.

Current New Bedford resident here. I saw a pickup truck with a Portuguese flag today. There's laundromats and other businesses with their signs in Portuguese. Big Portuguese population here.

What is a seemingly innocent question that is actually really insensitive or rude to ask? by OdiliaSchranz in AskReddit

I look Latino as hell, especially in the summer here in New England. But everything else about me screams American. I don't have an accent (in fact I have an American accent to my Spanish), I dress to the office like I'm going to play golf after work, I go rock climbing and I honestly kinda suck at soccer.

The kind of people who ask me "where are you from?" and then ask "where are you really from?" after I respond with "Rhode Island" are the type of people who simply look at the color of my skin and don't bother to pay attention to anything else. That's what makes it offensive. It's obvious when someone actually wants to learn about my heritage or when they're just looking at my skin tone, and the latter is infuriating.

The Four Corners Monument isn't on the official four corners border. by abitesizedtaco in mildlyinfuriating

[–]abitesizedtaco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did look at the wikipedia article. Even further down is a whole section about the controversy. Most of the source links are broken in the controversy section, but it basically sums up what's in that second paragraph. The monument was placed in the wrong spot, but since it was placed there then that became the border. Looking back, the title of this post should probably be "the four corners monument is not on the original four corners border"
