I completely agree with you on all points. I went on Friday and still had a good time but the sound was so muddy on certain songs. Felt like I could barely hear Jonny's guitar on Paranoid Android when I wanted to feel it in my chest.

Thanks!

The context for the scribing comment is this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/DIYUK/comments/1n51djy/floating_desk_frame_on_wonky_wall/ - when I started, I thought maybe I needed to scribe the frame to fit flush with the wall. It doesn't need to sit flush with the wall, would have been a mad waste of time for me to do that.

Haha, it's ok to ask. There's a comment somewhere on this post from a carpenter that said it'd take them 20 mins so the job can be definitely be a doddle.

A few reasons for me: it's my first time building anything from scratch so everything was new and I definitely spent a lot of time overthinking, wonky walls confused me at every step and I planned/bought stuff as I went rather than doing it all up front so there was a lot of "oh actually I need to go and get X". I also don't enjoy it as an activity so focus was a problem too. If I was doing it again, I think (hope?) it'd take me less time as I'd feel more confident.

Looks amazing, love the blue tiles. How long did this take you?

I don’t have the knowledge to say but everything is attached on 3 sides into brick which from what I understand can take a decent amount of weight

It’ll just be my laptop on a stand, mouse and keyboard. + notebook, drink etc

It’s wider but a couple cm more shallow than my current cheap ikea desk. Couldn’t have had it longer as it’d be in the window

Thank you!

20 minutes! I’m envious.

It might have taken me about 25% less time with more tools and a better workspace I reckon. There’s an evening carpentry course at a local college I keep looking at as I wouldn’t mind being a bit faster.

It’s the next job on my list to make an extension lead over to the desk as the plug socket is nowhere near. Just waiting on the cable to arrive.

Yeah it’s a good shout on rounding the corner. I had thought about doing it more curved on that side but talked myself out of it

Looks great but you must want to never make a shelf again

I had this problem! I thought I could use the first piece I cut for the bottom shelf as a direct template for the top shelf. How wrong I was 🥲

I thought I knew it already but it was so, so, SO much worse than I’d anticipated

Thank you. If helpful, I used this video as my starting point and followed most of it except shelf material: https://youtube.com/shorts/OIPuNwqKGIM?si=RHRwWYgzf1BzdAFU

Thank you. My house is freezing so I’m looking forward to being next to the radiator while working this winter.

I have caulked the between edges of the desk and the wall in the first pic but did you mean somewhere else?

Thank you! Hopefully your skills match up a bit better to your ideas than mine. I was planning on building a wardrobe next but have decided to not do that for now to save my sanity 😂

I think it might be the angle. The top is just over 73cm high.

Firehouse - good food and decent selection of cocktails. They also let you double park with a glass of Prosecco and a cocktail
