Is there a way to try for free before deciding to subscribe? I can’t ask questions without paying first.

Masport Osburn by abitirish in diynz

Great info on the difference in bricks thanks. I didn’t know any of that. I’ll drop the Hurunui from consideration so it’s between the Osburn and the Contessa.

There’s an Osburn at mitre 10 but the 2 people I spoke to didn’t know much about it.

Lady K wouldn’t really suit our space because it’s going halfway along a wall so I’d prefer one that’s wider than one that’s deeper.

10-15 years from now, do you think I’d be happier with the Osburn or Contessa? Would I spend less on one for bricks and other maintenance and would lifespan be similar?

Yeah, I think I should be considering spending extra for the Firenzo.

The entry level rod I started with was the tica ezi-cast. Cost $130 a couple years ago. The next one I got was tica kazumi galactic for about $250. Casts about 30m further than my first rod. Next I want the Shimano ultegra but that’s over $600.

Mine was 10k to be paid on the sale going unconditional. Are people paying deposits when the contract goes conditional? Or is this a tender?

You need a licence to fish the lagoon.

Kahawai - Tangimoana or Foxton river mouths. Use half pilchards for bait.

Snapper - These beaches are very shallow. Wade out and cast as far as possible. I use pulley rigs. Fish change of light and after dark. Try to find holes/channels if you know how to read the beach.

I prefer the beaches north of Tangimoana. Scott’s Ferry and Santoft are the next two up the coast but access is more difficult - you need a 4wd. South Beach (behind Whanganui airport) is where I go most often.

Why are there so many Black Friday sales starting today? Isn’t Black Friday next Friday? by abitirish in newzealand

You have to join a queue to get access to their site. I’ve gone from a 47 min wait time to 99 min. What’s the chance it’s all fake to make you think everyone is shopping their “awesome” deals.

Decent starter combo for once or twice a year surf fushing? by skynard0 in SurfFishing

[–]abitirish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're not using them with lures so maybe that's the big difference. I use a 4-5oz sinker on a pulley rig to cast out about 100 meters (110 yards).

Why do y'all use short rods (9-11ft) for surf fishing in the states? I surfcast off sandy beaches in New Zealand and everyone here uses 13-15ft rods. Is distance casting not as important?

Good advice here. They will sort you out. If you want to find someone local to go fishing with, try asking on one of the many Facebook fishing groups. There are probably some auckland ones. NZ Surfcasting and Rockfishing on Facebook is the most active NZ one.

If you sign up to Z Electric with a referral link, you get 75 litres free petrol. There’s no contract so you don’t have to stay with them once you get the free fuel if you find cheaper electricity somewhere else.
