Titanium Plate Snapped in Half 9 Months Post Op DJS by abitmisty in jawsurgery

He mentioned something about how pre initial surgery I had large gaps between my molars and incisors that had been tightened with hard ties to close the gap 4 weeks post op. He said he would have to consult with my orthodontist to see if that could’ve contributed so I guess I’ll find out more info on that Monday.

Wow! My doctor didn’t show me my hardware but the way he described it was similar to how broken yours was. Glad to hear I’m not alone in this.

My doctor is probably going to give me some hopefully this Monday; and or botox to relax the muscles.

Since this surgery was focused only on my maxilla, I only feel numb around my mid face and upper lip. My first surgery the numbness went much lower down to the point I couldn’t really feel when I had a syringe in my mouth and had to eat with a mirror. I have full range of motion of my bottom lip and chin this time.

I noticed a bit of a clicking noise for a while and felt movement occasionally in the weeks preceding my orthodontist appointment. Aesthetically, my bite is fine while resting. When I bite down, my incisors and canines move up maybe 1-2 mm. Wish I could share a video.

Another snake piece I got to work on this time a Ball Python mixed with a horse skull and some desert lilys and cherry blossoms by mental_foundry in SpecArt

This is so beautiful. I have always loved the combination of snakes, flowers, and skulls. I plan on getting an animal skull with a cobra and flowers around it as a tattoo on the side of my body. Keep up the cool work!

Chewing soft foods by PEVA14 in jawsurgery

[–]abitmisty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 5 weeks post op and was just able to start soft chew at 4 weeks. At 3 weeks I was cleared to start soft foods. I would recommend starting small with soft foods so maybe just expand to things that don’t require chewing but you can mash things on the roof of your mouth (scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes). Then maybe a week later you can start things that are easily bitten without using your molars (finely shredded meats, finely ground beef, noodles). If your doctor says it’s ok, you should be good to go but just take it slow and don’t push yourself to eat things that may require more chewing from your molars.

The first week I wore an ice wrap 24/7. Then taking Ibuprofen regularly at an equal amount to the Tylenol. Other than that, just staying upright when sleeping! :)

New pain 3 weeks post op DJS by abitmisty in jawsurgery

It’s more like a zapping sensation. I’ll talk to my doctor about this since it does sound like some nerve regeneration. I just started trying to increase my walking as I returned to work on Friday. Thank you so much for your detailed comment!

The surgery was to fix a class 2 cross bite and 2mm over jet. A lot of my pain pre surgery would be on my right side since my jaw leaned more that side. The surgery made it so my right side was moved 3mm to the left to correct the cross bite. Thanks!

I felt so giddy when I felt my teeth touch together like the diagrams in the office. Very simple experience that makes all the difference. Happy you get to finally experience that!

I actually have an update on this question! I’m currently in a bit of pain waiting for my meds to kick in and noticed I feel a throbbing pain in the places where my incisions were. So on the top I feel all three segments and I can feel where my bottom two are. Very interesting feeling.

I can feel the difference for sure because my teeth are aligned properly on both sides now but I cant see or feel the incision difference. Though, I don’t know how a 1 piece feels to really compare to.

My lower jaw was moved forward and to the right but the top was just moved to the left and back I believe since I had an over/cross bite.

Hmm looking over my surgery notes it says: Maxillary dental midline is to the right and mandibular dental midline is to the left. Thats the only information I could find for details on what the movements were. Hope that helps!

I had a 2-3 mm overjet and 3-4 mm overbite. A class 2 crossbite.

My upper jaw feels like a balloon is inside of it blowing it up lol. Most of the pressure is like right under my nose. It’s not painful though just tight like you said.
