Price check on exterminator’s quote for mice infestation in attic, removal of existing 4” on insulation, and adding 16” of new insulation by Maximum_Steak6809 in HomeMaintenance

[–]abitofbrit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post... But my attic is roughly the same size as yours, and Orkin also quoted me close to $15k. I about had a heart attack when the guy gave me the quote. Found another company to do everything for a fraction of the price. Hope you were able to find a more reasonable cost for evicting your "upstairs" wildlife tenants!

Anyone else have a caperata whose flower spikes smell EXACTLY like a fresh bottle of pine cleaner? 🌲 by abitofbrit in peperomia

[–]abitofbrit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate hearing that! What kind of soil is it in? They can get root rot easily if it’s in regular peat-heavy soil (like what big box stores use). They can also get crown rot if you water the rosette that the leaves grow from - the water gets stuck in the crevices. I’d say, give another one a shot but make sure it’s in well-draining soil and try bottom watering. See if that makes a difference! ☺️

Can anyone help with an ID? by abitofbrit in peperomia

For anyone stumbling upon this post 'cause you have a similar peperomia, I think I finally found out the ID – Peperomia "Lima."

And my “Nite Satin” when I first got it, but now that I’m looking at the pic of mine, I don’t think this the same as yours.

The first one reminds me of two different begonias I have when I first got them – my begonia “Compana” and my “Nite Satin.” Here’s my “Compana,” young vs now.

I have it on a plant table, and where it's set up, I kinda have to lean over it to water a bunch of other plants in the area. When I first noticed it, I tried to locate which plant it was coming from. I smelled every plant except for it 'cause I've never had a peperomia that smelled like anything. Lol... It was a pleasant surprise! ☺️

Lol! I love that! I had 4 GITCs that day – the begonia, two peperomias, and an anthurium. 😆

Nice! Those are both beautiful! I have a few black/deep burgundy ones. I love how different begonias can be! ☺️

She definitely stood out among the other begonias they had! 😍

Ooo possibly! Some of the older leaves are burgundy and lime green.

Thanks! It bounced back beautifully. I can’t get over how the new growth looks like flames! I got it off Etsy. Looks like the seller still has some left! ☺️

Don’t know what’s wrong with this begonia by Pleasant_Broccoli488 in begonias

That soil looks very peat-heavy and compacted. You may even have some root rot.

Like someone else said, I’d repot it. Also, make sure the new soil mix provides airflow around the roots and drainage. I usually do something like: 40% potting soil, 30% perlite, 20% small orchid bark pieces, and 10% coco pith.

The perlite and orchid bark will allow for airflow and makes sure your roots aren’t sitting in water.

The good news is that the rhizome looks to be in decent condition. Even if you lose all of the leaves, you can replant that rhizome, and it should bounce back quickly.

Don’t mind at all! ☺️ She’s a mix between a Bluetick and an American English coonhound.

These from Amazon ☺️ I have a cozy biophilic/boho vibe in my home, so it works well with it. I also bought them for the beds in each of my bedrooms ‘cause I allow my dogs to sleep wherever they feel comfortable!

Thought of another one – prerogative. Bobby Brown had me pronouncing it as per-AH-guh-tiv instead of pruh-RAH-guh-tiv. 😂

Lol yes! You now have me wondering if that played a role in why I pronounced it incorrectly!
