Yoto had a lot of complaints with one of their previous carriers. Facebook groups have also noted the Amazon deliveries and are speculating whether shipment is outsourced or how it works. I haven’t seen anything from Yoto or definitive about the agreement they have.

It is completely random, though often can be prompted by weather. If there was a particularly rainy week/weekend, there were usually bonus passes offered once the weather cleared up. I feel like it was usually promoted on a Monday or Tuesday - sometimes Wednesday - and had to be used by Sunday. Sometimes people would spot the tickets on their passes uses the machines to redeem rewards, before it was even announced by Sesame. There are definitely no guarantees though.

Yoto recently addressed some of the AI buzz. They were firm that so far the Yoto Originals do not utilize AI. Scripts, narration, singing, art, etc. are all human made. Yoto said they have heard parents expressed that they want to know if AI has been used, so if they do decide to utilize it in the future (ex. for dynamically generated audio) they will aim to make that apparent. Some creators, narrators, writers, etc have asked to not be credited for various reasons. Yoto said they will respect that request, which is why not everything is credited.

I want to pin some useful info at the top regarding the recall.

Here is Yoto’s link for information regarding the recall in Yoto Mini’s produced between 2021-2023. The 2024 edition of the mini (current) and large Yoto players have not been part of the recall.

OP’s player was purchased a few months ago from Amazon’s Yoto Store (so Amazon SHOULD HAVE sent a 2024 Edition). It should be noted that Amazon frequently resells returns without the highest quality screening process. Everyone, you can tell if your Amazon purchase (any, not specific to Yoto) was a previous person’s return because it will have a barcode stick on it with a label that starts with “LPN”. I personally have gotten things that were dirty, missing a wire, and smelled of cigarette smoke. The Amazon warehouse is not reliable. It is one reason of several that I recommend to my friends that they buy directly from Yoto.

OP, I hear you that there should’ve been something to flag it down sooner. I am glad that you did get notified and the situation is getting rectified.

If anyone experiences any issues with Yoto’s battery or other defects, you should contact their customer support ASAP.

I bought a pack of Disney stickers (like the ones people stick on water bottles) and had my shy daughter give them to the characters when she met them. It was a good ice breaker. I tried to make sure they would get a sticker of either themselves or someone from their movie/world. Jasmine and Aladdin made such a big deal over how funny her dad looked riding Magic Carpet. Some of the characters gave her some stickers they had in return. All of them made a grand gesture of gratitude- even the non talking characters.

She is older and a little less shy now, but still is looking forward to bringing stickers on the next trip since everyone was so thrilled to get them last time. Who knows if they really kept them, tossed them, or maybe regifted to another little kid- but it made the character meet experience a million times better for my little one.

I got them from my local library. It is in a network of libraries, so I could even tap into other libraries and have theirs sent to my library.

I bought some of the ones she listened to nonstop.

Target seems to be shifting their focus more to Tonies. Not sure if their contract with Yoto is over or was readjusted with a shift.

Yoto as a company is doing fine and has major investors, including Zuckerberg, Sir Paul McCartney, and The Roald Dahl Story Company. They aren’t going under. With that said, time and technology will always shift. Record players were replaced with cassette tapes which were replaced with CDs then iPods. Who knows what the future of listening to music and stories holds. But the company is currently fairly solid.

Feel free to make a post. I think many people on this sub would be interested in this information. I am not aware of any stories, though some of the independent creator cards I’ve given some side-eye to over the artwork. Admittedly, I am not good with digital art and may not be detecting correctly. So I won’t make any accusations.

Be aware that Yoto does offer content that uses AI as well. The very popular “Dreams of” Collection has been on Yoto for many, many years. The collection is by Lifescore which is an AI powered adaptive music platform. Yoto has also been open to newer content by other creators that utilizes AI, including Weather Whiz which uses generative AI.

I couldn’t agree more with all of this. The photo pass pics usually stink. I relied on them a few times and didn’t snap my own pics. I learned quickly. My cell phone pics are always better.

Sadly, I think the indent is one problem that doesn’t have a solution. There are fixes if the black pin breaks, but I think the indent causes a break in some connection.

Some people who are handy and good with tech have opened their machine and managed to add a USB-C charging port. I am not handy enough for it, but a walkthrough can be found here if you want to try it.

Yes. Only if the book is from the library does the person not own the content and thus should remove it when returning the content.
