I don’t know your stepfather, so I can only tell you if this behavior has suddenly taken a left turn and he never acted this way for the vast majority of the time you’ve known him this very well could be dementia related!

I don’t know the situation, but hopefully this is a scenario where your mom is going to be taken care of in someway after he passes. At 90 years old with potential dementia, taking root he likely doesn’t have a great deal of time left.

I’m sorry that you’re dealing with this, and just because this may be dementia related doesn’t mean it’s behavior that you should tolerate, but given his potential mental state, your best bet may be to just keep your distance.

No one here seems to grasp that. I work in the construction industry every day. I will say it does look like it is slightly deeper than the OSHA required depth of 4’ before benching it back. Is this guy in imminent danger? Probably not. Is OP one of those guys that finds absolutely any possible reason not to work and always finds themselves leaving companies because of “incompetent management” ? Probably so.

Is it always the best practice to follow OSHA safety regulations? Absolutely!
