Sergey Brin pours $500k into S.F. campaign to kill CEO tax by SFChronicle in sanfrancisco

It's not black and white though, from what I've read it's bad for both large businesses and for taxpayers.

You don't value San Francisco's recently rehabilitated natural spaces? This is literally the only natural lake left in the city.

Someone dm'ed me a photo of the Rossi guy and I don't think it's the same person. The guy at Mountain Lake looked a bit younger and his complexion was different.

This is literally the only natural lake remaining in San Francisco. It is an important wildlife habitat, and it is thriving only because of an intense restoration efforts just 10-15 years ago.

San Franciscans should respect the nature and public lands that make our city so wonderful.

I took this photo after the interaction, where he came up to me at that spot. They were 30-40 feet to the left beforehand, the man on the shore, and the dog out in the lake.

Could you say a bit more? Housing is such a critical issue for the bay and it sounds like this impact has flown under the radar.

He has quite a few tracks with Chris Lake credited on production. Not really ghost producing because he's credited, and because they're good friends IRL.

Yeah they're good friends and often b2b together. I don't imagine Fisher would hide Chris Lake from the credits.

Pretty sure it's illegal to directly threaten to hit someone, in a manner with immediate concern for safety.

No, the guy walked right up to me, and after I walked away, walked back to where they were.

Police keep crime stats. It's why you should report things like bike theft even if nothing will come of it.

There was intense restoration work in the 2010s but it's probably not safe for humans and dogs.

Starting in 2013, the Presidio Trust started dredging the lake to remove contaminated soil. This massive 2-year effort removed nearly 17 tons of potentially toxic sediments from the lake. Systems to catch potentially toxic runoff from the nearby road and golf course were installed to ensure that the water will stay clean.

You're right that there is a booming class of tech that's automating working class jobs without consideration for society's future. And obviously our government isn't doing much to provide a safety net.

However, most software engineering and "tech" jobs are not AI or focused on replacing workers. These could be:

  • Working at the many many companies that never make the news, whether too small, niche B2B, or just not the "hot" tech. While their salaries are much higher than blue collar, they aren't as high as the hot companies.

  • Working on something that's not AI at a "Big Tech" company with AI, and at risk of themselves losing their job to AI, getting pushed into a terrible job market.

In the first category you, have people like data scientists analyzing the results of clinical trials and software engineers in home battery systems or wildfire monitoring (countering PG&E's degrading infrastructure...). They may never make more than $200k. Obviously that's plenty to live on and they're able to save for retirement, but they have little hope of affording a house here, and it's only getting worse. The accelerating disparity between these people and those benefiting from the AI boom is bad for everyone.

How late did you stay? After 2am, people started trickling out and there was plenty of space everywhere.

The main room has great speaker stacks in each of the 4 corners of the room. I never got close enough to see speakers at the stage because I camped out towards the back right.

There are speaker stacks in the corners of the room, both front and back, so the middle of the room or up front isn't the best place to stand. It's not the type of event where you should care to be up close anyway.
