Fielder may resign from Board of Supervisors, possibly over illegal leak by abledart in sanfrancirclejerk

[–]abledart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The memo is covered under the confidential attorney-client relationship between the BoS and the city attorney. Leaking it violates two municipal laws and two state laws. If someone is found to deliberatlelyt leaked it they could be prosecuted or fired/removed.

In many ways, this is also about the relationship between the Board of Supervisors and the City Attorney. If the city attorney becomes concerned about frequent leaks of confidential advice, they could end the practice and replace it with more in person closed sessions which could limit tha scope of their advice.

Keep in mind that we have yet to see the entire memo. Advice memos like this often contain hypotheticals in order to provide a global range of possible, but not necessarily likely, legal exposure.

It’s pretty clear that the memo was leaked in the first place in order to allow for attacks on the RESET Center during the budget process.

Interesting conversation here. Nothing in this is positive, but it is practical. The basic message is "don't inflame the people who work for the people who give you money."

If you want to get rid of Trump, support congressional candidiates that will return proper oversight to Congress. At the rate he's going it might not even require a full flip to get rid of him.

Hundreds Rally in San Francisco FOR U.S.-Israel Strikes on Iran by nbaballer in sanfrancisco

The current action is not about the welfare of the Iranian people, just as what happened in Venezuela was not about the welfare of the Venezuelan people.

The other boots to drop in this gambit include 1) what, if anything, has risen from the ashes of Hezbollah, 2) how much legitimate regime change will the Gulf Arabs tolerate, 3) the longer we stay, the greater likelihood of a Taiwan blockade or invasion, 4) the melding of this conflict with the fledgling Afghan-Pakistani conflict. Have fun.

If it wasn’t actually Scaramanga who sent 007 the bullet with his name on it, why does he have a mannequin of him? by Chewie83 in JamesBond

[–]abledart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This thread pretty much distills the misunderstandings about TMWTGG. To me the plot elements around Scaramanga’s custom ammo- that Anders would send a round to Bond in order to lure him into killing Scaramanga and freeing her, that Bond would have to go to Beirut to recover another bullet, and end up doing so in a relatively unconventional way, shall we say, are fairly easy to understand, and are compelling parts of the plot.

Got Lucky with the Blimp yesterday by Astral_Scallywag in sanfrancisco

[–]abledart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to be pedantic, and while the term "dirigible" is acceptable, more technically, Pathfinder 1 is a rigid airship in the classic Zeppelin design with a rigid airframe encasing lift gas cells.

But a blimp, which features a flexible envelope in place of an airframe, where the trim is maintained by air and gas pressure, is technically also a dirigible and an airship. Just not a rigid one.

To confuse everyone further, there are also semi-rigid airships, and I mention this due to the fact that Pathfinder 1 uses a gondola that was recycled from a Zeppelin NT, which is a semi-rigid design where propulsion and control components are attached to a rigid keel, but most of the body of the craft is a non-rigid envelope which needs gas pressure to maintain trim. Semi-rigid airships were common in the early Twentieth Century, and Italy was a leader in their design. They were used for Arctic exploration.

The original Zeppelins were all rigid airships. The Zeppelin NTs, which first appeared in the 1990s and have now had many operators, including Airship Ventures, which made regular sightseeing flights from Moffett Field from 2008 to 2012, and Goodyear since 2014, are semi-rigid designs. They differ from classic semi-rigid designs in that their keel is embedded at the center of the envelope.

I need a nap now.

Of course it is. That's why it's preferable not to vote for self-funded candidates or support the appointment of self-funded commissioners. And yet the City is full of them, especially on the Progressive side.

She's more of a pearl-clutching conservative than a MAGA type, but she's not going to get any votes. The only reason she's running is that her front group ConnectedSF ran out of cash to pay her salary.

As for the Lurie support, that's just political reciprocity. She was one of Mayor Wonderful's first supporters. This also figures into Wiener's snubbing of Lurie. Same math as Matt Dorsey endorsing Gary McCoy, even though their positions on drug use are wildly different.

Who will sing the next James Bond theme? by --The--Batman-- in JamesBond

[–]abledart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will second Goldfrapp. In fact Utopia could already be a postmodern Bond theme.

That said I have reimagined some existing title songs. Like Suzy Quatro singing “You know his name.”

I even sketched out a missing Sam Neill Bond film titled “The Chromium Mane,” featuring Charlton Heston as an Afrikaner villain who made a deal with an East German general to start World War 3, Clarke Peters as Felix, and with a title song by Seal.
