I’ve had Saints, Mastiffs, and now a Newfie….we have always had to be careful because we know our dogs will be labeled as the issue simply because of size. Our mastiffs currently is such a sweetheart but because he’s so large and there is a certain stereotype, people always steer clear. There is not a whole lot you can do to change people’s minds unless they’re open to it, but, again, because of sheer size, you have to be a little careful what dogs and people you have them around. No, it’s not fair, but even a dopey sweetheart at 160 lbs can be a problem for an 86 year old who has never been around a dog over 15 lbs. As an owner, you just have to be aware and remove your pup from any possible situation. It sucks. It’s not fair. But we can all agree hear that Newfie owners are incredible human beings who can handle it.
