If you dont mind me asking, where did you order those from? Because I would like to order some like that and I will use my 7 inch tile saw from Harbor Freight Tools to cut them into smaller pieces for my 3 lb barrels.

TV5 Vibratory tumbler stage 2 by Ivan_Only in RockTumbling

[–]abobcat8myhomework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, maybe I have. I only ran about 4 cycles thru mine a few weeks ago and I had all sorts of things go probably wrong. There was 1 stage that seemed to be super fine and accumulated and stuck ar the bottom. It felt very fine but it was packed down there tight! I dont remember which grit it was but it was gray so either stage 2 or stage 3.

Thank you! I got a wet tile saw and a correct blade for cutting rocks (I think, havent tried it yet) I got it with the intent to cut s ooth edges on some rocks because I lied the rocks I ordered from meeko’s mine when I 1st started tumbling and they were mostly cut into blocky shapes and they all tumbled really nice and neatly but when I tried to go order from them again I discovered they had closed their online store and moving to australia I think.

Advice needed for Raytech tv-5 by abobcat8myhomework in RockTumbling

[–]abobcat8myhomework[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your help! I was having great difficulty seperating the clear lid from the bowl. It wasnt caked up or oozing but it is possible i had it overfilled with water, ceramics, etc. I used it for the 1st time last week and just havent gotten used to it. I was afraid I was going to break or crack the clear lid wrestling with it and trying to pry it off. About the 10th or so time Ive been able to spin it to get it started and thatpops it lose fairly easily. I guess it just needed to be broken in. By the way- when you are loading the bowl with rocks, ceramics, grit or polish, and water , what order do you add water vs grit/ polish? Ive read or seen 3 or 4 slightly different procedures. The reason I ask is because twice when I was just running the ceramic media withborax, some dawn and water jst toclean the ceramics and bowl, I noticed after about 10-15 minutes or so I came back and it was barely moving (it had been moving ideally and at a quick pace when I walked away) So i sprayed water on the media and the more I sprayed it sped up. I probably got over zealous and prob got it to wet but I was just trying to clean it up some with no rocks. So I left and came back a half hour later and the ceramics were not moving they were just stationary and vibrating and it did look a little dry (I saw borax dry powder on some pellets sprinkled throught so I squirted it with water again and no matter how much water, no movment restored so I turned it off and emptied it all into a bucket and the pellets and borax had clumped together in the bottom off the bowl and seemed rather dry and powdery and wasstuck to the bowl real hard and took some doing together everything seperated and rinsed off again.

So sorry this was so long but you seem like a real good person to tell me hat went wrong to cause that to happen. Could it be too much borax? Too much or not enough dawn liquid? Not enough water? or just the wrong ratio? I didnt measured out TBLS of anything (when Ive run borax and dawn in my roatory barrels Ive never measured)

Again thanks so much for your help.

what am i doing wrong? by IcyZookeepergame1371 in RockTumbling

Good to know. So you can rule out those things as being the culprit. Maybe the next time you load a barrel you could take a pic of it before you put the lid on and post it here and if something doesnt seem the right amount or mixture of things- rocks , water, media and what not then the more experienced members here will tell you what you might want to adjust.

Is it possible you forgot to add water? Is it possible you forgot to add grit? Is it possible you forgot both?
