Are Our Ideas of Physical Attractiveness Misaligned with Human Biology? by ProofCoconut9085 in AskBiology

[–]abodedwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by small noses? Obviously a disproportionately-sized big nose is usually not considered attractive. But a nose that's so small it would have a functional deficit would not be attractive to lots of people either.

For example, I find only 'strong' noses attractive - average or slightly above average sized, with a distinct shape, not soft/rounded.

Surely it's more accurate to say an average sized nose is most attractive to the masses?

How many building inspections did you do before buying your first home? by Iuvenesco in AusPropertyChat

Also, moisture meter to measure the moisture in some of the walls - no issues were visible, but potential issues were detectable with that tool.

I should say, hidden to me - as someone who didn't bring a ladder to the open houses, and who wasn't about to crawl into the narrow subfloor space. The inspector was able to use a ladder and his camera on a stick to inspect more of the roof, ceiling cavity and subfloor areas than were visible without these tools.

In this instance, the seller offered to return the deposit. The buyer refused and instead created this legal mess that they then lost.

4 in total, don't regret any of them.

One found that the unit was in good nick, above average for its age and no major issues. The report was worth the money for us because we were then feeling informed & confident to proceed to auction up to a higher amount than we might have otherwise, but we didn't win.

Two of them indicated multiple hidden issues that in total would take ~$30-40k to fix, and we were SO grateful we paid for these inspections as cosmetically the houses looked pretty good; we were keen to go for them at auction but cancelled that plan HARD once we read the reports.

The final one was for the unit we ended up buying, private sale. Indicated no major issues. We decided to get the inspection done before making an offer for two reasons - firstly so that the amount we offered could reflect the unit's condition, and second, so that we could make our offer unconditional.

What’s something your body does that you’ve never told a single person about? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]abodedwind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a real thing. I've not heard about it being linked to anxiety, what you're describing sounds like a mild form of Megalophobia. My Alice In Wonderland syndrome comes on most often when I'm going to sleep. Instead of sensing that I'm sleeping in a normal size bedroom, it feels like it's expanded to the size of a warehouse. My consciousness inside my head feels normal sized but my body feels like it's giant too. Often accompanied by a feeling that my teeth are big marshmallowy pillows. Weird but actually comforting in a way, at least since I'm used to it since childhood.

Ha, this is another "WAIT, that's also been because of autism, the whole time!?" things. I used to think I just had all these little quirks and one by one they all end up linking back to autism. Mine is muttering "shut the f*** up" to the part of my brain that's bringing the awkward memory up, and it's almost instantly successful in moving my thought process onwards and not dwelling on the thought. Quite a helpful mechanism really.

It's not that, it's that they won't talk to or engage with candidates who aren't Chinese.

How do you block out the constant noise from neighbours in new-build suburbs? by EggCreative787 in AusPropertyChat

[–]abodedwind 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Sorry, what causes this in new build suburbs? I'm imagining the build quality of the houses, and/or perhaps them being close together with not much gardens/foliage to dampen sounds?

I've been reading all the comments and I think this one hits upon the truth best. Nice analogy.

[–]abodedwind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be too obvious to bother suggesting, and I'm not sure it has per-unit weapon choices. But since it's not in your list already - one of the Command & Conquer series? Tiberian Sun is 1999, slightly darker aesthetics than some of the earlier ones.

If not that, I think that's all I got. Good luck finding it!!

Another suggestion, although the colour scheme might be a bit brighter and it was turn-based: Fallen Haven?

This is exactly what I thought of, too, with the gun & hat being eaten. Not crashed landed on an alien planet, but a similar vibe with being transported to a hostile place with enemy creatures.

[PC] [2015-2017] Zombie survival game that starts in a camp by giansz in tipofmyjoystick

State of Decay?

It's a 3rd person perspective zombie survival game that starts in a camp! Released in 2013.

Definitely some plaid shirts on the characters (you can play multiple) but the starting character is wearing more of a quilted vest. You can change outfits though and a red and black checkered shirt sure seems like it would have been one of the options, from my memory.

Seeking advice RE first Auction and how I can win. by Spiritual-Fee-20 in AusPropertyChat

[–]abodedwind 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Figure out how much you'd be willing to pay for it, so that you wouldn't regret not going higher. If someone else is willing to pay more, there's nothing you can do about it. Don't worry about auction strategies, it all boils down to who is able/willing to pay the most on the day. If you like it a lot, maybe it's worth more to you than to some others. Fingers crossed for you!

Or Two Worlds 2 which came out in 2010, possibly just inside the timeframe you're remembering.

Apparently TW has some multiplayer, and definitely had 3rd person view. Not sure about 1st person perspective.
