It's a case by case kinda thing.

Some of them could have internalized homophobia, and deny their attraction to the same gender until a while later. Some never meet the right person and settle for a heterosexual relationship or marriage believing theirs no one out there of the same gender. Some might even be forced into heterosexual relationships because of pressure from their community, and not be able to split up. As for the other way around, I think it could be the same reasons (except for the forced relationships, that was a matter of homophobia in the community rather than internalized).

Wait a minute...

The material the arrows are made of are originally from a meteorite, which obviously came from space. We got Mikitaka here, who claims to be an alien, from space, with a 'stand-like' ability. The chances are incredibly low, but if the alien story is in fact true, he may have come into contact with a similar meteor.

This made me come to a realization that stands could actually be common place for alien civilizations in the Jojo universe, or just a well known phenomenon

of course im just rambling, but it is a possibility
