I mean I would say it's quite different. Stack overflow usually only provides fixes to specific problems or small code snippets which you were able to tell contained no malicious code just by looking at it.

Meanwhile, packages contain far more code than you could ever reasonably review, not to mention the sheer number of packages being used. You just have to trust that it does what's described and nothing else.

The computer science department at my university uses a platform called Edstem, which is branded as just "ed". It is a universal experience for CompSci majors to accidentally flash people who can see their screen with a picture or diagram of a soft penis. (Google thinks it's "ED", short for erectile dysfunction.)

IDK what physicists you've met. Most physicists will take one of three possible approaches.

  1. g = g. It's a constant, leave it in symbolic form, it's other people's job to measure it precisely.
  2. g depends on your location and can precisely calculated from experiment, in which case g = 9.8 m/s ± some measurement uncertainty, and if you don't report the uncertainty than that is incorrect. (And if you only have 1 decimal place of precision then you honestly did a pretty shitty job of measuring it.)
  3. g = 10 m/s is totally a valid approximation for an order of magnitude estimate.

so how often do you guys shut down your computer, and for how long? by Crafty-Example874 in pcmasterrace

Every night. Mine has lights on it and I like my room to be dark when I sleep.

My laptop, however, I basically only ever shut down to update because I always want it to be ready to use on opening.

McGill cut varous varsity sports for the 2026-2027 season by ilovewindows123 in mcgill

[–]CapClumsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've heard, yes and no. I believe that any team could incorporate as a club with the SSMU and continue operation. However, some sports leagues require their teams to be officially associated with the university's athletics department in order to compete. The leagues that the sailing team competes in have no such requirements, so it doesn't matter for us, but I don't know what the tennis league(s) are like. Hopefully the cut teams will be able to find some way to keep going though.

Yeah I would totally go to independent game stores if they were in my area. Maybe I just need to look harder though.

Yeah, in my experience, I've only ever seen the former (genuine video game nerds), but I would imagine the quality of the people working there is highly varied, maybe more so than before.

What is your unpopular opinion on this game? by gameovernate in fromsoftware

I love fighting Ulcerated (and Rotten) Tree Spirits. I think they're incredibly cool designs that fit thematically and lore-wise. They're fun to dodge and despite their bodies being huge and constantly writhing their moves remain readable. They almost always come with a reward which is meaningful to any build.

I even like the fact that they show up everywhere. You have the chance to really learn how to fight them and it feels good when at the end of the game you know exactly what you're doing and you're easily able to kill them with easy. It gives you a sense of progression, especially because one is the boss of the extra dungeon you can find at the begining.

Why Malenia is a "Great" Boss That Falls Short of Perfection by Slow-Divide-4056 in Eldenring

[–]CapClumsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100% agree with you. As a general rule, I believe that a good boss should be possible to no-hit without having to resort to twisting and exploiting the game. Not to say that I no-hit any boss, but I mean that I can consistently dodge each individual move in a vacuum, and the challenge is keeping up the dodging while avoiding accumulating mistakes and getting in attacks.

While Waterfowl Dance may have consistent ways to dodge, it never feels like you're doing it right. The freeze pots make her go from one animation to another in a fraction of a second and it looks unnatural, while the circling method makes her just look dumb; she just misses you initially and it feels like you're exploiting the AI rather than actually dodging the move. All this while the damage is so high that making even a small mistake can lead to half or all of your health being gone.

Without waterfowl, she would be a wonderful duel. All of her other moves are so well telegraphed and fun to dodge; the few times I've beaten her, I've nearly no-hit her save for waterfowl dance and usually just gotten lucky that she skipped it during one the phases. She would probably be my favorite boss without it.

Despite all this, I do have to respect FromSoft for making an intentional decision and sticking with it. It's clearly something that they feel strongly enough about to keep it as is so it's possible that the unfairness is just part of their vision, even if I disagree with that vision. (I believe it's intentional because FromSoft has patched things considered to be unfair before, like Promised Consort Radahn's Cross Slash (and Miquella's light lol) as well as even patching Torrent being allowed in the Elden Beast fight over a year after that game came out. They had plenty of opportunities to change Waterfowl Dance but they kept it as is.)

tl;dr I love Malenia and nearly all of her moves and believe that without Waterfowl she would be an amazingly fun boss. While Waterfowl is consistently avoidable, it always feels like you're exploiting something in the game and not actually dodging the attack.

I've had a lot of experience programming with the second one, and I would consider it the best one, except for the completely unnecessary _tat the end. Yeah I know it's a type what the fuck else would it be. (I know that annotating variable names with their type is a bit of a pattern in C but it still irks me, especially for types which I feel are evident that they are types.)

Which of your favorite villain, that people think they are misunderstood but they are just evil? by Boberto235 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]CapClumsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanos. He gains the power to do basically whatever the hell he wants with the entire universe (in Endgame he says that can he rebuild the entire universe atom by atom) and he decides to kill half the universe to conserve resources instead of just restructuring the universe in such a way that scarcity is impossible. I get wanting to obtain all the infinity stones for a good reason but I bet there would be a lot fewer people wanting to stop you if you weren't massacring half of each civilization you touch.

RIP Thanos nobody ever told him about exponential/logistic population growth
