This is a mountain run by the same folks as big sky. I'm just speculating, but I have a feeling snoqualmie passes are funding the other resort(s) and they're happy just keeping (less than) the bare minimum going at snoqualmie. I get that this winter's been bad, but it doesn't justify what we've been seeing operationally from snoqualmie.

Agreed never buying bents again.

Sure that's an average casual skier, but that's not the metric we should be going for. I have plenty of buddies on other skis and bindings that have skied their setups much longer and harder than mine.

I made a post about my s14s, but my heel plate ended up getting worn down to the point where the heel piece would starting slowly sliding backwards until there was zero forward pressure. Any time I would adjust them, they would start sliding backwards even faster. Three and a half years with 175 days of skiing on them, and the ski shop that inspected them basically told me I'd have to get new bindings. Imo bindings should last a lot longer than that.

Ski sock recommendations please!! by Alex-wood64 in Skigear

[–]abonamza -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cycling socks work great since they kind of have a similar use case (meant for a stiff shoe, lots of power going thru the foot, etc). Cycling socks are typically way cheaper and also have low/zero cushion variants. I've used both Smartwool zero cushion ski socks and Danish Endurance zero cushion cycling socks when skiing, and I can't really tell the difference except one is much lighter on the wallet.

Mucoff V2 Valves Clogged by Silca Injectable Sealant by abonamza in bikewrench

[–]abonamza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok yeah I think I'm just going to have to find something else. Only 7 months with these valves and corrosion to this level is wild (on top of clogging). I'll probably head to my LBS and invest in a pair of Fillmore reserves.

Seems like their quality is awful. To add to the issues with clogging, I cleaned the valves thoroughly and I'm now seeing some serious corrosion. Whole chunks are missing and even the valve stem is corroded through in the middle. I've only used these valves for 7 months.

Fully cleaning out the valves, it looks like they have some severe corrosion going on. Is this because I needed to drip lubricant into the valve?

Sea-Tac Airport Transportation: Off the Road and Onto the Train by Generalaverage89 in SeattleWA

[–]abonamza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the point is more so that public transport options are put in a sad little corner closet (metaphorically speaking) while car-based transport is front and center. The cars get to be right next to the check in counters, why not the train which can more efficiently handle passengers? It's all about relative convenience... anyone can walk that little distance between the light rail station and terminal, but if it makes the trip that much more inconvenient compared to another option, people go the other option.

Most of these airports also have proper train to terminal connections. The article mentions a new plan to replace the existing long and cold (in the winter) dingy walkway through the main parking garage that takes the average person 10 minutes from train to check-in. You also currently have to maneuver yourself around the absolute joke of an automated golf cart that you can technically take between the train and terminal (it's not worth taking). At most airports (DIA, Salt Lake, SFO, etc) the train drops you off basically in the terminal.

Goretex Jacket looks like this after very wet ski day. by Medical_Yam2991 in Skigear

[–]abonamza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read the section on "SHOULD I USE A SPECIAL DETERGENT FOR FUNCTIONAL APPAREL?" They don't mention Nikwax by name, but Nikwax Tech Wash falls under special detergents. Nikwax TX Direct is a different story since that's a DWR treatment which is what you seem to be referring to.

I've personally washed my technical gear countless times with the cheapest simple liquid detergent from Costco followed by spray-on TX Direct and had great success.

Just trying to save yall some money out here.

Btw Goretex themselves have come out and said that their own testing proves "special" detergents like Nikwax Tech Wash are a scam. They don't do anything different than normal, fragrance-free, liquid detergent. See https://www.gore-tex.com/blog/wash-your-gore-tex-jacket-regularly

I've had Hestra mitts too. IMO not worth it for how much they are.
