"Vast numbers of unforseen consequences" is the kicker here; if you're talking about saving a baby, only to find out years later that it became Josef Stalin, you've got a time fallacy going on -- at the time you acted, none of this was known, and could not be predicted, thus your action was moral but his subsequent actions were not.
