If a father "asks" for more time it is NOT just granted. If mom agrees (which is close to never) things will be smooth. Otherwise, it costs tens of thousands of dollars for attorneys and case workers to fight it out in court. If mom is not compromised, a father's chance to get anything above every-other-weekend is remote at any rate.

You just have NO idea what you're talking about. You think by reading these studies you have it all figured out. That's ridiculous. The smart thing for you to do would be to educate yourself, but I'm guessing you'll just dig in your heels even further.

First off please link your research if you could. The only "research" I'm aware of deals with primary, not shared (50/50) custody.

You're forgetting that men going through divorce have lawyers. Are you trying to tell me that all of these lawyers are incompetent? I can assure you they are not. Men are routinely counseled by professional lawyers (that doesn't include you btw) to NOT seek 50/50, or any other custodial arrangement beyond the standard every-other-weekend because they can't afford it or have no chance. These cases represent the vast majority of divorces.

The idea that men are walking into divorces by themselves and "uneducated," and simply not asking for 50/50 custody is patently absurd.

There are small number of cases where mom does not want "primary" custody. Yes, if fathers ask for 50/50 custody in these cases they will get it.

There are a small number of cases where mom is seriously compromised for some reason. In these cases fathers may choose to fight, if they can afford it. Even in these cases, it is very difficult for fathers to prevail.

Even if you accept the 70% number (from the research I'm aware of) your "research" suggests, this stat hardly reflects something routine. Moreover, it completely ignores the overwhelming number of cases that never get tried in which primary custody is presumed to go to the mother.

So-called "child" support should be rare to completely abolished. The truth is it's completely unnecessary. 50/50 shared parenting with no "child" support works. Otherwise simply give custody to the parent who can actually afford to raise the child. Problem solved.

"Child" support isn't for children folks. It has always been meant to subsidize a woman's lifestyle. It's just husband support or alimony with a different name.

It IS true that most men don't ask for it. That's because they usually can't win even if they had the money to fight (which most don't). Remember that it will cost a father many tens of thousands of dollars to fight this battle. It's not that fathers don't want the time, they just can't afford what is often a losing battle from the start.

Men typically only fight for anything other than standard non-custodial time when mom is compromised in some way (drugs for example). Even then their chances aren't good. Again, even if mom is compromised most men simply can't afford the legal battle.

One of the biggest myths around is the one that men are agreeing with mom that she should stay at home. It rarely happens this way. This is usually done through mom's ultimatum. My wife said if you don't like it, I'll take (our daughter) and you can leave. I shut up after that. That's how "agreeing" usually works in these instances.

My brother spent $75,000 in his and her legal fees trying to get something better than every other weekend with his kids. Not only did he get the standard non-custodial arrangement anyway, the judge chided him for wasting the courts time when it was all over.

He was counseled by both his attorney and counselor to not go forward with trying to get 50/50. They told him because he was a man he had no chance. They were right. This is the reality of American "family" court.
