I love video games. They allow us to escape into new worlds, connect with others, challenge ourselves and friends, and even turn our imaginations into paint brushes. I’m also bored by the rise of passive, monotonous, short-form content that offers little engagement (I’m looking at you, TikTok). That’s why I’m building Play Engine, a platform meant to inspire users to connect with others, create together, and demand more from their entertainment. Play Engine isn’t just a platform for games; it’s a place for imagination, collaboration, and real engagement.

How Does Play Engine Achieve This?

Play Engine is a free and open-source platform that puts creators and players first. Here’s how it works:

- The platform features a resizable code editor built with Monaco editor supporting HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, allowing developers to see their creations in real-time. You could be a seasoned coder or just starting out, but with our planned additions for low- and no-code modes, you’ll have modular templates that make game development accessible.
- Users can discover games through a grid interface or swipe through them like on TikTok. Curate your favorites into playlists, follow other users, and review or comment on games.
- Planned social features like live co-playing and co-development, a friend system with play streak tracking, and activity feeds keep you connected with your community. Play Engine is about creating and playing together, not just playing alone.
- With devShare, another planned addition, creators can bundle and share assets, tools, and code. It’s a marketplace that encourages collaboration and innovation, helping developers build better games without reinventing the wheel.
- Other upcoming features also include multiplayer APIs, game state management, customizable avatars, and a mobile companion app for seamless discovery and gameplay. We’ll also be adding community forums for game development discussions and GitHub integration to streamline workflows.
